best way to remove old pin stripe
so would a hair dryer do it all?
any other methods? Scheib did a horrible job leaving the old pin stripes on the sides. they also painted over the pin stripe on the front bumper. any suggestions? I'm taking the car back in to get it fixed. they just want me to help them remove the stripes. |

One thing Ive always seen to work is if you have access to a power buffer. Just heat up the stripe and pull it off in sections. Watch you dont burn the paint though.

Heat them with a hair dryer and peel off what you can. Then take a razor blade in a holder, wet the surface with Goo Gone or Goof Off and gently take off the rest. Lubricating the surface minimizes scratching. Be careful not to dig into the paint. Gently is the key word.

Re: best way to remove old pin stripe
I would get a heat gun it would work better than a hairdryer. It gets hotter and will melt glue better. And I would use a flexable plastic blade like for putting bondo on.

Re: best way to remove old pin stripe
Anyone know how to remove a painted pinstripe? I have a project car with painted pinstriping that I want to remove. I tried a trick from another forum using "Easy Off Oven Cleaner' - didn't work.
Any ideas? |

Stripe tape I use a razor blade at a tight angle ...slice em off in one motion , then clean adhesive off with thinner or adhesive remover(prep solvent). Just be careful with blade not to gouge paint. Use one hand on each side on stripe for even pressure, they will come right off. On painted stripes, I usually wet sand with 1000-1500 grit then buff or tape for paint .
