Default Eibach Springs/18" Wheels

I'm NOT looking to trick my beautiful Mustang out like one of these white-trash hip-hopping spoiled kids, but lowering my car would make it ride better (harder but better), that I know. The only thing is..I of course have 17" Futura Ultra tires mounted on 17" GT Bullit alloy rims..and when these tires go bald I was looking to put on a set of tires mounted on 18" chrome Cobra rims. But a friend told me doing BOTH would be a bad idea. The car has no ground FX or anything like that..the engine is all stock and the only add-on is the Flowmaster exhaust I just put on. Does anyone have any advice on using a lowering kit with my car or should I settle for the higher wheels and call it fair? Again I have a stock 2001 GT.

well first off 18's aren't the best for performance in handling, its all in the width of the tire not the height. In other thought, i would first put on the 18's see if there is a gap in between the tire and wheel well that you wouldn't want there, then if there is ,lower it down to where you want, make sure you get Adjustable Springs, so you can lower it down to where you want it.

I can understand about the handling of the car with 18" wheels, but I don't race my Mustang or drive it recklessly..Its' blowing one of those $250 tires that I'd be afraid of..(Pothole season is in full force on Long Island) I mean for a car thats driven easily like mine is, are 17"s' still a better idea?...Its' just that the Cobra rims look so much nicer in 18"s', with the Eibach springs though I was just worried about the 18" tire at any time hitting the fender (or am I just paranoid?.)

Theres one more thing also, once I have the car lowered (assuming I get the 18" rims, I want wider tires (both front and rear), how do I go about finding those?
