detailing around side window
What is the best way to blacken the door trim around the window at the top (the metal part that was black that appears to be turning white). I put tipes of blackener on this area but when it rains it just turns back grey.

When I needed a rear quarter window for my GT I looked through all the wreckers but could not find one in decent condition. I did find one eventually but it was grey in colour from being in the sun for a very long time. The finish was smooth though. I ended up trying some of the mothers gold 3 step car wax process for some strange reason. I guess I was desperate, I wanted it to look good not bad! I used the second step first which is the sealer I think, and then applied the third step which is the carnuba wax. The result turned out pretty good and has lasted ever since(over a year and a half now). Mind you this car is a daily driver which means the stuff has held up real well.

One other thing. If it is pitted then I would suggest taking it off and sanding it with some fine grit paper until it is smooth again if possible. And then shoot it with some trim paint. Flat black preferably I guess. I know my cousin did this with his project car and it looks great.
