Angry aaarrgghhh....DRAG RADIALS!

Well, just got done test driving my car with my new drag radials. 255/50/16's and they hook just like a set of pizza cutters. I even brake torqued them and heated them up for a few seconds. I launched off idle and it spun them through 1st and 90% of 2nd gears. I'm running the mods listed below. I'm hoping that if I lower the tire pressure some more, they will hook better. It's at about 33 or 34lbs right now. They are BFG Drag Radials by the way. Josh

I would drop pressure to about 25 imo, actually, i would of just bought some M/T e.t. street slicks, im gonna use my friends and see how many tenths they will knock off, i suspect low 13.5 with my stock motor and a hard launch, but e.t. streets arent as streetable, so i dont know what to tell ya?

dropping the tire pressure will help a lot. a friend of mine broke the rear end in his trans am with nitto drag radials at 18 psi, with a 5000 rpm launch, they hook pretty well. his car has 114 mph so it's puttin' some power to the ground.

I HAD A THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NITTO'S WHEN I FIRST GOT THEM. I LOWERED THE PRESSURE TO 20 AND THEY HOOKED UP FINE.

Nice setup you have, but the Formula GP suspension is probably too tight not allowing any decent weight transfer. Also, too much tire pressure in them...I run 26 psi in my Nittos on the street and 20 at the track. It still takes for finesse or I can light mine up pretty bad. But with practice...you can learn the best technique for your cars setup. With the S-Trim, you will have to run a lower tire pressure on the street...maybe 25 psi, and launch just above idle and then find a rate of throttle movement that brings on the power and torque w/o breaking the tires loose. If you go to the track...run them down to about 18-20 psi, and do a good 4-5 second burnout. I ran mine at 32 psi at track and wa having problems until a friend recommended dropping the tire pressure and heating them up more. Next launch scared me! Anyways, just experiment...you'll find the "notch" soon enough. Good luck...Dave

sorry, kind of off topic, but i was wondering where you all got the nittos? i dont see them online at jegs or summit. i was thinking of getting some goodrich drag radials but the nittos sound like they may be better from the replies. my e.t. streets were shredded almost brand new from glass on the street which is everywhere. sliced em like butter. not going back to those!
what is the price on those vs the goodrich @ close to 150 a peice?

I have never tried out the BF-Goodrich drag radials but I have seen the mickey thompsons in action I think the mickey thompsons suck for the street but are the best drag radial out there for the track my dad has a built 383 stroker in a 73' camaro and his mickey thompsons held traction pretty good with low pressure and a good burn out. I have nitto drag radials on my stang and they are good enough for the mods I have but I think if I had more power I would go with some mickey thompons. This guy at work is gonna give me some mickey thompsons with about half of the tread left and I will see how thy compare with the nitto's. I bought my nitto's out of a 5.0 magazine for $290.00 for 245/50/16's

oh, i agree! my e.t. streets hooked up great in my opinion! in the driveway, at the track, cousins apartment complex parking lot,,,, you name it, they hooked it!!!
but im not in the mood to swap em on and off all the darn time, and haveing to tow them to the track and back, blah blah, if i can get some drag radials that will handle 'decently' and hook pretty well. i dont mind changing air pressure at the track, but i usually go by myself and dont have anywhere to put a spare set of tires while im racing!
if i was going to go that route i would simply get straight slicks. i want something i can chew up the yuppies with on the street as well in there vettes, porches, and whatever else they can get imported for under $100,000. i want to have no more than 25,000 total in my car when im satisfied (does that day ever come?) and i want to be smoking cars that sell for 50,000 and over.
that is my idea of fun.

My 275/60/15 BFG Drag radials spun like crazy when they were brand new too. Once they wore in a little they hooked a lot better.

With that supercharger and a 5 speed i would recomend 3.55 gears over those 3.73's unless you are going to use slicks.
