Angry how do I break loose the crank pulley bolt?

We are trying to replace the harmonic balancer on my buddys 85 gt, but we cant break the pulley bolt loose.

Ive heard the toyota guys put a breaker bar under the frame of the car and kick the starter. I dont think I want to try this unless anyone else has done it on a 5.0.

Any other suggestions would be great.

well if you dont have an impact, you could try what I did for my pulley bolts put the car in gear and have you or your buddy step on the brakes while you or him uses a breaker bar on the balancer I dont know if it will work but thats all I can think of without having a impact

Your Toyota buddies are exactly right.

Use a 1/2" drive socket with a 4" extension, and a breaker bar. Set it up so that the breaker bar touches the ground on the drivers side of center, and bump the key.

Of course you do realize that you will need to unplug the coil first.

Works perfect every single time (except on Honda's because their engine rotates backwards).

Take care,
-Chris

Talking Thanks guys!!

Thanks for the info guys....

Turns out a friend of a friend had an electric impact driver, which worked just fine.

An interesting thing though....when trying to pull the Harmonic Balancer with a puller, make sure you remove the washer behind the bolt. The inside of the crank was so full of crap, that we did not notice the washer, and therefore the puller did not seem to work until we removed it...duh.
