ford lightning experiences
I am in the process of buying a 2002 ford lightning. How many of you out there have or have had one of the lightning family. Also is there anything that I should know about these vehicles. Anything particualr go wrong with them. Especially motor related. What mods are the best bang for the buck.
thanks for all help |
Re: ford lightning experiences
I have had nothing but a great experience with my Lightning and I've never had any problems with it. It's an amazing vehicle to own and drive, which also has a lot of potential with basic bolt-on's and modifications. View the following thread...

Re: ford lightning experiences
I thought I wanted one and test drove one.. I decided right then that its not what I wanted. I don't know why but it just didn't feel right to me. Test drive one first. Other than that, they are a fast truck and they burn alot of gas.

Wow... that's weird! I've never heard anyone say that they didn't just love driving a Lightning. You're the first! LOL

Re: ford lightning experiences
Maybe it was the pushy salesman in the truck or the high price of it(it wasn't in perfect condition). I found one 50 miles from here that I was going to pick up at a decent price, just needed to drive one. Anyhow, it was between a lightning and a new Mach.. I think it may have been a combo of things that turned me off to it.

Some owners of 01-02's have had a problem with blowing spark plugs out. Ford didn't put enough threads in the head ( I think there are 3 or 4 in there)...in 03 they started putting 6 threads in the head so they don't have the same problem. If you have a warranty, it shouldn't be a problem. If you don't have a warranty, it would cost a pretty penny to replace a cyl. head if a spark plug blew out. But I don't want to scare you....this isn't a major issue. Just check that the plugs are snug every now and then (like at every oil change) and you shouldn't have any problems at all. Lastly, you'll love the L!!!!! Be sure to post some pics when you get it!! |
