Stats on the '95 5.0?
Who knows what the stats are on the '95 GT? It's a hard top, straight stock. HP? Torque? Etc? Thanks... AG

1994 GT 5.0 5-speed dyno'd with 70,000 miles and 3.73 gears. Was told by the guy with the dyno, gears might help torque but has no effect on HP.
Bone F'in stock. 8 deg initial timing. At the wheels: Max HP: 191.2@4300 (225 stock w/85% efficency) Max torque: 264.5@3000 (311 flywheel) Avg HP from 2100-6000: 160.8 Avg TQ from 2100-6000: 219.1 With Edelbrock Performer 5.0 heads & intake, 70mm TB, stock MAF with MAC Cold air kit, Cobra 1.7 RR, stock cam, Motorsport 1 5/8" shorty unequal headers, BBK 2 1/2" cat h-pipe, Flowmaster 2-chamber cat-back, 19 lb inj, and 13 deg timing (still pinged during dyno runs). Max HP: 259.5@4900 (305) Max TQ: 303.0@3900 (356.5) Avg HP from 2300-6400: 209.7 Avg TQ from 2300-6400: 257.3 Iced intake for 30 min on above combo. Max HP: 283.1@(DN, chart didn't reg) (333) Max TQ: 318.8@3900 (375) Avg HP from 2100-6500: 220.3 Avg TQ from 2100-6500: 274.4 191 hp at the wheels would come up with an almost 90% efficency through the drivetrain which I thought was unbelieveably optimistic so I went with the 225 base number to come up with an 85% eff which I thought was more believeable with the 5-speed. The more accepted 80% would have yielded a flywheel hp of almost 240 which even the most diehard Ford mags would have laughed at. Never ran a quarter, but my G-Tech says consistent 14.30's @ 104 with the new combination. Haven't had a chance to dyno it since I got the 93 comp and 30lb injectors. However, since the injectors, I can now run 16 deg initial on the street on 91 oct. [This message has been edited by CJ's94GT (edited 02-19-2001).] |

CJ's94GT- I'm a bit surprised that you made 259.5@4900 in the first run. That is way too low an rpm for max power with that set-up. What changes did you make for the 2nd run, besides ice? The 2nd run looked good, but the first run seems like you had a problem.

Didn't make any changes for the ice run. I let the car set while we put my buddys 99 GT on for three runs. Those puppys are impressive!
It was actually what I expected, considering I kept the stock cam. On top of that, I had serious pinging and detonation even with only 13deg initial. The motor, stock, nosed over at 4500 while the modded motor nosed over at 55-5600. On the second run, I was above 250 from 4500-5600 (stock was never over 190 and was below 180 from 5200 and up)and went below 240 right at 6000. The difference between the graphs from both runs show a much fatter and broader power curve, a combination of the better breathing upper end and the 1.7 rockers. When I swapped the 93 GT comp and the 30 lb injectors I could run 16-17 deg on 91 octane with no detonation whatsoever. I'm dying to get it back on the dyno although I will be flabbergasted if I can get it over 300 even with ice. 300 at the wheels, naturally aspirated with stock cam, was my goal to begin with. Too many books say the stock cam is topped out at about 300 HP. If I can get my idle problems solved, I have a 306 with forged pistons and a main stud girdle I want to build into a blower motor. If I had a scanner, I'd beam you up a copy of all my runs (2 stock, 3 modded, 2 iced). |

Heres some food for thought. I have an AOD car with more mods than you, and if I run it at the track shifting manually at around 5300-5500, or if i leave it in Drive and let it shift itself at around 4000-4200 rpm, my e.t. is exactly the same. These motors make power a lot lower than people think. Your rpm reading was correct.

The 94-95 GT's with the manual were rated at 225hp 300lb/ft automatics were rated at 215hp 285lb/ft.
T-5's lose about 17% in driveline. AOD's lose about 22% in driveline. |

OK... I guess the topic got a little lost, in a discussion of what mods can do. ((Deciding to go with the flow)) What suggestions do you guys have to get started? I'm looking at a completely stock car. I'll probably start with a cat back exhaust. What from there? Thanks guys...

3.73's, subframe connectors, full exhaust (headers, H-pipe, cat-back), 6-9lb blower.
If you get all this on your car and it runs well, then I would look into heads and intake. Depends on what you want from your car. I just wanted about 300 at the wheels but with the money I dumped in this car, I could have had a blower and kept half the cash. The only parts I have got for this car that I didn't have to return for lousy quality were Edelbrocks. |
