Post How to modify an 8.8"

Somebody recommended to me that I modify an 8.8" rear end to accept 9" tube ends instead of getting C-clip eliminators because my car will see lots of street time and I don't want leaky seals. How do I do this, where do I have it done, and how much does it cost? Hehe. I'll probably get 31 sline axles and I'm clueless as to what I'll need to get this done or how to do it. I'd consider an actual 9" rear end, but I'll be getting a torque arm and panhard bar and I don't think they'd work with a 9" rear. Besides...have you seen the prices for good 9" rears? They're like $2000+ complete.

Why not just a good 31 spline diff? You need the 9" ends when you go to a spool and eliminate the c-clips.

But I can't use a spool on the street. It'll wear out the rear end hardware too fast. I had already planned on a 31 spline differential...but I wasn't sure if there are any out there that can hold the kind of power I wanna make.

Next best thing to a spool on an 8.8... Rebuild the traction loc. Replace one of the steel plates with a clutch plate and put them in every other one starting with a clutch plate and then replace the S spring with a spring from a F-150 8.8 rearend. Kinda wears out the tires at first but once it gets broke in it's not to bad and it deffinatly one have one-wheel-peel You should be able to get new spider gears for the 31 spline. If your car sees a lot of street use then go with the 9" ends over the c-clip elims. Strange should have the 9" ends or you might try Summit and Jegs. If not just go thru a MM&FF and call all the places that sell rearends. The 8.8 can handle 1000 hp if you build it right. Get a dif cover that has preload screws on it and have the tubes welded in too.
