Timing adjustment with Steeda adjuster

What is the correct setting for timing for max power with the Steeda adjuster? Stock is 10. If I crank it to 20 and run 120 jet fuel will I run 9's?!!! Just kidding, but what are the limits of this situation-is there a point of diminishing returns on power the further the timing is advanced? I know eventually detonation will occur, but for instance: on raceday could I run super-high octane gas and set the timing higher than for normal driving? How do you play with these things? (I am putting on Steeda pulleys at the same time). Thanks!

I adjusted mine while on the dyno and the best results were with it set at 14* or 15*. It worked fine up to 18* but lost 3RWHP so I left mine at 15*. I run my car with 93 octane at all times. From people have told me anything above 18* is asking for problems.

What gain did the dyno reveal for the timing adjuster?

I went from 244.6RWHP to 253.8RWHP so about 9.2RWHP with it set at 14*.

Not bad at all. Most people seem to have similiar results, good gains up to 14, then no severe loss, but it tails off after that.

Is the stock settiing the same for the first-gen. 4.6's? And if so, is 14 degrees a good starting point as well? The timing adjuster seems like a good cheap mod. but I don't have a dyno around to check tuning for best performance after install.
