Underperforming Cobras?

This is something I just got wind of. Don't know whether its true, but I thought I'd ask.

I've been told that some late model cobras (perhaps '98?) had power rating problems. Ford had advertised 300+ HP, but exhaust and intake prolems netted only about 265. Supposedly Ford offers fixes (exhaust and intake changes) to correct the problem.

Has anyone heard about this?

This problem was on the '99 Cobra. A PR nightmare for Ford and is the direct cause of no Cobra's produced for the 2000 model year.

My understanding was that they were underperfoming by about 20 - 30 hp. "The fix" as it is called consisted of a honed intake manifold, new cat-back, belt tensioner and computer re-flash.

To find more about this problem, search the forums on these boards:

Hope it helps.
