Underperforming Cobras?
This is something I just got wind of. Don't know whether its true, but I thought I'd ask.
I've been told that some late model cobras (perhaps '98?) had power rating problems. Ford had advertised 300+ HP, but exhaust and intake prolems netted only about 265. Supposedly Ford offers fixes (exhaust and intake changes) to correct the problem. Has anyone heard about this? |
This problem was on the '99 Cobra. A PR nightmare for Ford and is the direct cause of no Cobra's produced for the 2000 model year.
My understanding was that they were underperfoming by about 20 - 30 hp. "The fix" as it is called consisted of a honed intake manifold, new cat-back, belt tensioner and computer re-flash. To find more about this problem, search the forums on these boards: www.scoa.org www.stangnet.com Hope it helps. ------------------ '93 Cobra, 1 5/8" FMS shorty headers, 2 1/2" Mac cat-pipes, Borla cat-back, 180 degree thermostat, 4" ram air, 3.55 gears, March pulleys, strut tower brace, Kenne Bell flip chip, Crane Hi-6 ignition, Crane coil, Global West Trac-Link, Hurst chrome shifter, Canton oil pan, BFG g-force kd tires '99 L, JL Stage II Ram Air, Bassani cat-pipes, Borla cat-back, R9 Superchip, Cal-Tracs, Chassis Tech 2" drop shackles, Water Wetter [This message has been edited by BlueOvalBolt (edited 05-11-2001).] |
