The 93 cobra has 1.7's, gt-40 heads, revised cam, the intakes, bigger TB and MAF.
so why does it only have 10-15 more hp than the 5.0 ho? (225hp) I want some 1.7's and a cobra intake, 73maf and hoping for at least 20 more hp??? but can you see why im confused? Also 1 more, has anyone ran a cold air induction with the cobra intake? how does it fit? thnx for any info ------------------ 90 lx coupe: Mac cold air fenderwell, accel supercoil, advncd ignition,3-core radiatr, FMS alum D/S, Black magic fan, 3.27grs, 3chbr flows. Hey 90dpscoupe, I have a 93 Cobra, and I have no idea why it only has 30 more hp over a normal 93 (I think they were 205hp). The Cobras had GT-40 iron heads w/ 1.84/1.54 valves, Crane 1.72:1 rockers, a Crane 2020 cam, 9.0:1 compression, the intake that came factory doesn't flow as good as the afetrmarket ones for some reson, 65mm TB, 70mm MAF, and I have the MAC cold air induction on my car and haven't had any problems. I can see why you are confused on the hp numbers. Hope the info helps.

Ford updated its horsepower calculations in '93 I believe, so that is where the lost horsepower is. So I guess since the regular H.O. motor had 205 hp you could say that H.O. horsepower calculations were down about 9% (down from 225, so divide 205 into 225 times 100 and you get 91%). So now you can figure out how much hp the Cobra would have been advertised with using the old method. So 235/x=91/100 (Cobra had 235 hp)using the law of ratios, cross multiplying you get 258 hp. So with the old calculations the Cobra would have been rated at about 260 hp. This is not Ford's method, just something that I noticed and figured out real quick. If the law of ratios applies here (which it should) this should be fairly accurate, but Ford does some wierd things.

I think the real deal is that the Cobra cam sucks. Also ford underrated it, just like they did all the Cobras. Look what cars w/ those heads and a decent cam make. Around 260rwhp when tuned well and having full exhaust etc.

On its way: Paxton Sn-89 with dyno tuning and long tubes. Just added: B&M Ripper, Weldin Subframes, & Turn downs! 13.2@106mph |
