Cool Ran the Lightning at the NMRA event in Stanton

Whelp, I was at the NMRA event yesterday in Stanton. I drove the Lightning there, so I figured I'd run it to see how it would do. Especially since it is bone stock and I wanted a base line on it. Although it was about 90 degrees (kills the blower) it still went 14.3 at 96 MPH. In the evening with cool air it surely would go 14.0 or even 13.9! Pretty damn good for a heavy truck.

I also spanked the Mustang LX I ran against too... ;-)

After that I didn't run it again. It was to hard to be up at the line taking footage, and then try to run all the way back to the pits to get the truck to run it when brackets came up. Oh, well... I found out what I wanted to any ways.

Thumbs up

Thats great! My cusion has one and the best he could run was a 14.3 untill he took out the rubber hose between the air box and fender and he ran consistan 13.9's. Try it or at least take a look at it, the rubber tubing is like 5 inches around and the hole in the fender is like 2.5". Next time your at the track just pull it off and run and you will see a differance. I don't know if you can feel it but it works. I wouldn't leave it off, I would put it back on before you leave. Also running with out the air filter doesn't help. I know alot of people have tried it. Just letting you know so you don't wast your time.

Yes, I've already been told one of the biggest things you can do to help the Lightning is install a air box / cold induction upgrade. Also, the stock computer calibration pulls A LOT of timing out of the engine when the trans shifts, and it also changes the torque multiplier on the converter. So, doing a custom chip calibration that removes those factors and leans it out just a bit (the stock calibration runs the engine at a 9.5:1 air/fuel ratio!) will pick the truck up like a half second alone! Between the induction upgrade, calibration changes, and an exhaust system you can drop the Lightnings ET down to 13.1 or even a high 12! I'm VERY impressed with this truck so far.

Also, Greg and I also raced around a 1998 Mustang GT off a stop light on the way to Stanton and spanked him!

Dan,

Great run! I am glad to hear that you had a chance to run the truck. Especially while wasting an LX in the process.

I can't wait to hear about your race stories when you bring out the 377ci!

I am almost ready to! It's all in the car, I just have to get a timing issue straightened out and get it running. I should have it going this week!!!
