Sounds like a good recipe to me.
As far as modded LS1's go, yeah, they can be really strong runners. Alot of guys that I race with (they are part of the local F-Body Association) have solid H/C/I combos on their LS1's and put down some insane HP/TQ numbers. 1/4 mile mph's are in the 114-118 range.
