A certain member posted something to this effect: a claim that the 2000-2001 GT performance in comparison to the 1998 Cobra is about the same!!! Any comments?!?!? I do not own a new GT, but I have test driven one and I just don't know about that member's 'claim'!?

I really don't know about that, but I know it doesn't compare to the 2001 Cobra! Heheh.

Yeah, too bad they have some serious power losses, and I'm not just refering to the 99 problem. Hey, we just race and put a little money where the mouth is. I'm just not a big fan of the IRS or I would have one...or maybe two....hehehe! But each to their own...right CodeBlue...I mean, 'CodeNinja'

I haven't had this thing to the track yet, but it feels strong. I haven't seen anything about any power loss with the 2001 Cobras? Have you? If so, where? I'd like to read about it myself. I agree that the car could do better than low to mid 13's in stock trim if not for the IRS, but then again the IRS helps to make it a better all-around car.
As soon as I get some real numbers from my car, I'll post 'em. Later. ------------------ CodeNinja 2001 Laser Red, "Bone Stock" Cobra |

Oh, and by the way, I think you took my reply wrong. The original post asked if it was true that a 2001 GT was comparable to a '98 Cobra. My reply was that I knew the 2001 GT was not comparable to a 2001 Cobra. Pppffffftttt!
I don't generally talk smack, and I suppose you thought I was smack talking against your Cobra. Sorry if you got that impression. Oh, and as to us racing -- if you're ever in my neck of the woods, I'd be happy to race you. ------------------ CodeNinja 2001 Laser Red, "Bone Stock" Cobra |

Well, as long as you think the IRS makes it a better all-around car, that's all that matters. I think they rob power. I guess that's what 'opinions' are for though, right? I have test driven a new Cobra, and aside from the new seats and the mineral grey color scheme offered; I'LL PASS!!!
No I didn't think that you were talking smack!!! ------------------ Tony 1998 Cobra |

Ninja: Muscle Mustangs & fast Fords has a test of the 2001 in the most recent issue...they ran low 13.4's all day & got a best 13.34 @ 104mph! Their dyno put power at abt 326 bhp. Not bad, eh? Wife wont let me trade the 93 for one or I may be tempted...Later! ------------------ 93Cobra#3974 off-road h-pipe, 2chamber flowmasters, hurst shifter, moroso cold-air induction, march street pullies, best 1/4 14.461 at 98.15mph, best 60' 2.233 |

Yeah, that rocks. Low 13 sec car that handles great too! I was just saying that I admit that it would be even faster (in the 1/4 anyway) if not for the IRS. I wouldn't have it any other way though.
One thing that took me a bit of getting used to though was the power band. I had an '88 GT and the power band in the '01 Cobra is just way different. It still surprises me sometimes. Of course, I did have my GT for 6.5 years, and have only had the Cobra for 2.5 months!!! ------------------ CodeNinja 2001 Laser Red, "Bone Stock" Cobra |
