Question 347 Dart (yes/no and S-trim or not...?)

Looking into new opportunity on 347 Dart block stroker...

Currently have an 8# S-trim TFS TW Stage-II heads / Stage-I cam, TFS intake all on a STOCK 35K mile motor (with girdle). Concerned about longevity of stock block making 400+rwhp in current tune. Been doing fine so far...

Have opportunity to purchase a 347 Dart block with 4340 crank, 4340 I-beam 5.400", and pistons (yet TBD), at a really great price.

QUESTIONS:
Should I consider this block (like I need another hole in my head). Or just pass on something like this, stock lower end will run fine forever.

Is the 347 (versus 331) really that big of an issue for longevity? Ook for drag racing, but not for opentracking?

Run it N/A for opentracking? Select pistons to match.

Install my current S-trim and get blower pistons? Tune combo for S-trim (which I have been happy, and no issues with so far).

Here's the only solution that I can think of.

Go with the Dart 347, and give me your S-trim

seriously now,

Have you thought through how much work and money this would cost? Yeah it would be great to have a blown 347dart block, but that can't be cheap.

Are you happy with where it is now? Will it be worth the huge amount of cash for a mild improvement in horsepower?
Those are questions only you can answer for yourself.

As for me, and if money weren't an issue, I would definately go for it, and up the boost while I was at it

As for longevity, I haven't heard of any straight from the mouth experiences in which the 347 hasn't lasted. Yeah, we all hear the old wifes tales about them burning oil and not lasting, but you NEVER hear it from the people that it "happens to" just from a guy who knew a guy, whos cousin worked with a guy that had a friend with a 347 and it burned oil.

I LOVE my 347, and will never go back.

How bout you just let me borrow the s-trim, and i'll let you know how it works on a 347?

Like Drew said. If money wasnt an option I would get it and slap the s trim on it.. Im pretty sure that Drew has been happy with the power improvements from his 306 to 347. .Now slap a blower on it and see what happens.
