Building a motor for NO2
Hey guys! First off I got rid of an 86 5.0 conv about 4 years ago... now I finally have the job and the ability to build one better. I know quite a bit about the 86-93 and plan to get another in the spring (wifey wants a 4runner!). My last one had 3.55's, h-pipe,world class tranny, headers (1 5/8 equal), pulleys, airbox mods with K&N, B&M ripper- jeez I miss that car!
My question is, for a person who has never dealt with nitrous, what is the simplest set up, and what kind of cam/pistons/heads/intake would you guys use. I can put about $500 every month or so, and I want a high 12 or low 13 sec car. We have an 1/8 mile track here, and my best in my old one was a 9.5sec @ 74??i think... TOO SLOW for all the $$ I put into it, and lost! Thanx, Strype |
Stock engine with 100 shot and slicks with run low 8's in the 1/8th just upgrade the fuel pump.
Low 8's = high 12's |
ZEX is the easiest complete kit to install by far. It takes about 3 hours from start to finish. This included the time that it took me to find a "hidden" spot for it
|
I just completed the install of a Venom-1000. Great kit and extremly safe. Not sure if they have one for the 5.0's. The entire system is computer controlled and it probably the safest on the market. I have only run about a 40 shot as I need to still get my colder plugs installed, but it is a hoot even at that.
There is a lot of wiring to do with it as you need to tap into the O2 sensor and all the fuel injectors. If I had to do it again, I could complete the install in about 2 - 3 hours. I spread the job out over about two weeks (hour here and an hour there) as I could not decide where I wanted things placed. |

|/quote| I had no idea a 100 shot would hit low eights... but when I think about it, it makes sense... kewl thanx! My friend hit a 9.1 1/8 with pulleys, bypassed smog, and h-pipe... in a 93 notch so I can see it happening. Thanx again guys |
Re: Building a motor for NO2
Hey, just for the record, it's N2O :D
I had a STOCK short block out of a 1980 truck, stock forged stang pistons, Vic Jr. intake, 750 Holley, non-roller hyd. cam at about .550" lift, IRON Windsor SR. heads, running 11.71 @ 117 MPH in a quarter. With only 125 shot of giggle gas. Biggest thing to look at is the heads, and nitrous likes lift on the cam. For what you want to do, it won't take much to build a good dependable engine, oh yeah, FAST too! ;) |
