Default Help with my motor. Any ideas would help me -5.0 power-

I recently bought a 345 hp long block from ford racing. They did serveral tests on the motor and the best combo was :

"view the attachment."

Now does anyone agree or disagree with these numbers? And How much horsepower would this motor be increased by would you say by adding cobra 1.7 roller rockers, Hooker Super Competition Headers, and edelbrock rpm " AIR GAP" intake. Tests were done by separete dynos. Carcraft magazines and Fordracing. Anyone who helps me thanks alot

I"m running the air gap and the 625 Road Demon, when it works right, it has a ton of torque... and it'll pull past 6,000 with no problems at all!

Now, keep in mind that a Demon is different than a Holley tuning wise, and every engine is different.

I had a magazine article from Hot Rod I think, and it compared the Ford GT-40 motor with two cams, small and large comp rollers, and the Performer 289, RPM Air Gap and Vic Jr intakes all with the same Road Demon 625. I wish I could find the article again, it was great! Anyway... you cant go wrong with the air gap. That's my opinion.

I just really wanted to see what my other upgrades would do to a motor like this. 1.7 roller rockers, hooker super competition headers, and Rpm Air Gap intake. I would guess anywhere from 20-30 extra horsepower. Hope some of you guys can just give me an idea, thats all I really want.

I'm i missing something ? That attachment didn't tell me what the motor as tested had ? What cam, rockers, heads etc the motor had as tested ?

Oh sorry the motor was tested with Gt40X cylinder heads, B303 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, heddmen headers, performer rpm intake, road demon 625 cfm carb. I just wanted to see what my air gap intake (8 hp claim) hooker super competition headers (10-20 hp claim) 1.7 roller rockers(10-15hp claim) Would improove over the stuff they tested it on. Any ideas of what the horspower and torque could jump too ?

There are so many variables that it's really hard to make an educated guess, but I'd say you probably already answered your own question

Hmm.. nope, that's not the article I was thinking of. The article was a comparison between intakes with both big and small cams for each to show the differences. They use the GT-40 crate motor and Road Demon, but the cam and intakes changed each time.

They used the Performer 289, RPM Air Gap, and Vic Jr only. with a Comp XE268(I think) and the XE292 or something as the small and big cams for each intake. It was a couple page article written in I'd say the last 3 years, near the front of the magazine. I'm pretty sure it was Hot Rod that did it. Sorry for going on like this, I'm hoping someone out there will find it since this is driving me nuts that I can't find it.

Don't believe what all of these aftermarket companies claim for their horsepower #s. If that was the case I'd have a 450hp motor...when in reality I may be pushing like 320hp. I'm sure the motor was tested with headers, right. Shorties I take it. Long tubes might give you 5-10 more horsepower...but I'm leaning more towards 5. The rockers won't give you much. Realistically probably another 5hp. As for the intake...8hp sounds about right. So my guestimation would be you could pull another 15-20hp out of the motor.

ya thats what I was thinking. I really like the sound of your motor man. It looks like the same build up I did almost. The motor my car is goin into is an old 65 falcon which only weighs 2500 pounds. I plan on doing some nitrious later on after the motor is broken in.

This can depend on the set up. When my motor was on the dyno, we opened up the intake with bigger TB, MAF, etc. It has the GT40 upper and lower intake, and the B-cam, but wasn't making the power the dyno guy thought it should.

I added 1.72 rockers and that really woke it up. I don't have the charts with me here at school, but if I remember correctly, I picked about 21 hp at the wheels after the rockers were added. So, if the intake is opened up but the motor could still use some more air, rockers may make a huge difference.

My long block came with the GT-40 iron heads, so I switched from what they came with (which I believe were just the stock rockers) to the 1.72's.

Uh, no...I have the original GT-40 iron heads. They were the ones that came on the 94-95 Cobra.

Ummm...wow! That is truely amazing! 21hp at the wheels just from 1.72 rockers?! I guess it does depend on the set up then. But I'd have to see the actual dyno sheet to believe that 1.72 rockers gained you around 30hp at the flywheel. That is an awful lot of power from such a small upgrade. So your 262hp GT40 motor in your sig, is the motor that gained 21hp at the wheels from the rockers? Soo your motor was only making like 230-something horsepower before the 1.72s were installed then? Something doesn't sound right...

Yes, this was on my current motor. I am at school and the dyno sheets are back home,but it was somewhere around 20 hp I picked up.

I was disappointed in the numbers too initially. With the GT-40 heads and intake, B-cam, 70 mm TB, 73 mm MAF, headers and such, it was only making about 240 hp. Although, when I think about it, this motor was advertised at something like 285 hp when I bought it, so my numbers may not have been too far off, depending on the exact set-up they used to rate the motor with.

The dyno guy was kind of puzzled though. A very similar car to mine was making ~270 hp at the wheels, except he had the 1.72's. So, we slapped them on mine and up went the numbers.
