Default NOs questions

I'm a newbie to the NOS scene and I'm gettin a 302 built for my 90gt, I'm goin with a stock short block, not sure what internals yet I want basically stock forged but my buddy building the engine wants to use hyperutechincs, anyways I have ported gt40-p heads, 1.6rr's tfs street heat upper and lower intake, 65mm TB and pro M 75mm mas air with stock 19lbers so the block it self wont be putting out crazy HP so I wanna use a dry fogger kit I laready have and go with 100hp now could I stay with my 19# instead of the 24's and also what are some good options to have along with the NOS system i have a crane ps-91 coil and was gonna get the actual firball system soon but anything else you recomend.

With only a 100shot, you will be fine with 19lb'ers

which NITROUS kit did you get? NOS-5115?

Yes, get a plate system like the 5115 from NOS. Anything else you are asking for trouble. Modern EFI intakes were not designed to deliver anything but air to your engine. A "wet" system introduced prior to your throttle plate MAY pool fuel in the upper intake and cause a NASTY backfire. The safest way to spray is, introduce the wet mixture as close to the intake value as you can.

a bottel heater and a pressur gauge never run the car unless bottle pressure is between 850-1100

I too run the NOS 5115 kit. I run a 150hp shot. I'm running the Crane HI-6 & PS-91 coil & love the performance. Have you upgraded to a bigger intank fuel pump? If you go for anymore than a 100 shot...you'll need more volume from your fuel system. An additional inline pump (like the T-Rex) will supply enough volume. A timing retard computer can be helpful with a nitrous system. I run an MSD timing retard computer that automatically retards the timing when my nitrous is activated.

Man you are gonna love that nirtrous dude, it puts a grin on my face every time. In addition to retarding the timing, make sure you go with a set of colder plugs as well. Just out of curiousity, why the hypereutectics? I would definitely go forged it if were my motor, jmo though. - John

ive heard good and bad about HYPO

Good becasue they are cheaper than forged but not as strong

bad becasuethey have to have a tighter, piston to bore fit and was told they are no good for some reason

i also run a 5115-2 with a bottle heater and a pressure gauge dont waste your time runnign the car on NOS if the bottle pressure isnt at the right PSI anywhere between 850-1050 is were you should run it, if not itll run bad times or if you run to much pressure itll go lean on you and you could blow it up.

My mechanic freind building my motor was wanting me to go with hypo pistons cause the cost and also he says hes installed them on alotta cars runnin NOS and said they'll be fine but then again I dont have alotta cash to be replacing a bad piston so I figured just do it once do it right and go forged, anyone know a good forged internal kit that doesnt really break the bank.

Thanks for link but i'm not sure what to look for, I'm a real newbie when it comes to this stuff. The motor is a stock 302 no bore and I have gt40 heads goin on and was just wondering how much the stock forged pistons would cost or where to get them. I belive there the flat tops.

SCrAPLA

the complete shortblock with forged pistons from www.bluechipmotors.com is only $600.00 shipped to your door, theres no way your buddy is gonna do it that cheap, if your gonna do the motor you should get aftermarket pistons from speed pro and they should cost around $300,they have bigger valve reliefs for larger cams, if i were you and wanted to do this as cheap as possible call bluechipmotors and tell them what year your car is and theyll tell you how much it cost and you can send them any parts you want, pistons, cam heads etc etc. i gurantee your local guy cant even come close to this price, this isnt used parts this is all new parts and a .030 over bore are you putting a cam in the new motor?

Well the reason I cant do it myself is lack of knowledge and space and time, I have no place to really build the motor or install it and no help what so ever, every shop around here charges about 1k just for a motor swap. I was gonna go with a re ground stock cam or something small, The gt40 heads I have already have 1.6 rr's installed and springs good about to about .5" lift.

Alright I called and spoke with Rick about a stock 302 shorty with the OE forged internals and he quoted me $649 for the short block, $150 core charge and $150 shipping cause to me in south florida so all together its almost $1,000 and thats about what I'm paying now to have mine built and assembled plus my heads fully ported and machined and the NOS and engine install for a totall of $3,000, good lookin out though, its a nice place to know.
