Default A-trim?

Has the Vortech A-Trim been replaced by the SC-Trim? I was looking at them and the Novi 1000's the other day and noticed there was no A-trim but the SC-trim is advertised to put out 5-6lbs. Anybody know?

Yes. the SC-trim replaces the A trim. It's just quieter that's all.

My Novi has helical cut gears (as opposed to straight cut on the old Vortech's) and it's not THAT quiet. Slightly audible but nothing too loud. I haven't heard a clip of the SC-Trim yet so I can't comment on how quiet or loud it is.

You could always look into a used A-Trim if you want the old style that badly.

BTW: How do you like the sound of the Magnaflows? I was thinking about switching from Dynomax to Magnaflow but it's still up in the air.

Sounds good, I'd like my blower to be heard and I'm not that worried about going to heli-cut gears. If possible I might be looking at a SQ-trim too, it's all up in the air. On another note, I LOVE the sound of my Magnaflows. The car had Flowmasters on it when I bought it, and I thought I liked it, I got these for $350 shipped to by door, and I will tell you, I'm never going back to Flowmasters. Magnaflows are supposed to sound very similar to Borla but nobody around here has Borla on a 5.0 so I can't make the comparision myself, If I were you I'd definately go with them though. ~Brian

I had the A-trim on our 95 and recently sent it back to Vortech for a rebuild, which he said they could do over the phone. Once it arrived there, he told me the impeller was bad and needed replacement and they didn't carry or sell that replacement anymore, I would have to upgrade to the S-trim. So I did and agree with you about the discontinuation of the A-trim.

The upgrade and rebuild is right under $950.00 I believe.

ok the Sc-trim is not just a quieter version of the a-trim. Its actually a more efficient compressor and will make more power than the A-trim. Its basically a s-trim impeller cut down to produce lower boost. Straight cut gears are used hence its a V-1 not a V-2 so it is plenty loud. Right at idle i can hear it a block and all my friends say it sounds like a jet plane is coming down the street. With the 2.89 pulley it quieted down some at idle. i have had no problems and i made 272.4hp and 314ft lbs of tourqe to the wheels with the stock pulleys, stock mass air meter, stock injectors, with just a gss340 pump for insurance. My tuner also claimed he saw 4lbs of boost at top rpm. the pulley and 73 c&l gave me about 5-6psi (belt slip?) with a 13.1 @ 106 timeslip. Your call!

The sc-trim is capable of making the same hp as the s-trim with a pulley change. It actually has a higher max impeller speed than the s-trim and is more efficient. You can check out the numbers on Vortech's website on the performance matrix. My sc-trim makes 4.5-5psi on a hot day and around 6 on a cool day with the stock pulleys. It is available with the V1 or V2 gearbox. I chose the V1 cause I like the noise. You can check out a video clip of mine at www.xtrememustangs.com in the video section.
