How much N2O can a stock 5.0 handle?
I was thinking of putting a 150 shot on my 90 5.0, I was wondering if it will hold up to it or not. Is there any upgrades I should put on. Fuel pump, injectors, ect. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks

yo
i wouldnt put more than a 75 shot on it untill you get the heads done.....Ive seen cars athat have nothing done to the motor and throw a big shot on there and hit it at the line and boom.....either the rearend falls out or the blow a cyclinder or even valves and springs.......... if you decide to throw something like that in i would recommend a dry system.............most of us run a dry system in out club here in rochester and we run more efficient than a those wet shot guys but then again its opinionated...good luck and be carerful

hey mustangmadman- where in rochester are you? Im in penfield. what club are you talking about? thanks
I have a 75 shot that gives a big kick, but am looking for more. I saw a guy at the track run a 150 shot on a total stock 94 mustang. It was completely bone stock, dont know if it is still running, but it was damn quick (dont remember times) for being stock. maybe if you are thinking of getting a new motor in the future, throw a 150 shot on there and run here till she blows. then it will give you an excuse to buy that new motor youve wanted anyways!

Madman is right I wouldn't put that much to it until you do the heads and put some Fel Pro gaskets in there. Even the ones I've put the 75 shot on eventually blow the head gaskets. BAck in 1990 we put 125 kit on my friends 87. We ported the heads, hooker long tubes, 1.7 rockers 3:73 gear WE went 12.20s w/ small slicks.

Stock 5.0 Mustangs have been proven to handle 150 shots at the fly wheel. For the safe side retard your timing, use the right fuel, and do a 125 shot to the fly wheel for saftey. Get a Nitrous Express wet shot too. I forgot how the rate stuff but I think its at the rear wheels.

Well my engine is not completly stock, I guess the question should have been " how much N2O can a stock 5.0 bottom end hold" see if that changes anything

I ran 150 dry shot for 2 years with no problems. Use colder plugs, upgrade your fuel pump, and a good ignition system. I had one of the adjustable timing controls in the car and I would just back the timing down when I sprayed it and turned it back up when I ran on motor. I started with the 75 and soon grew board of it, you will to. Save yourself the trouble and start with the 150, you won't regret it.

The holley "nos" kit (stage 2) is made for a stock motor and fuel system. I would put a better fuel pump in, msd ignition(6al), one range colder plugs, 92-93 octane, 8 degress of timing and go! It will handle it with the right tune.

190lph in-tank, T-REX inline pump, 6al w/ in-car timing controller, 93 octane, stock heat range plugs, 8 deg. With the rest of the motor stock, and a few bolt-ons(4.10, headers,CAI,etc.) I ran 13.19 E.T.on street tires and an AOD. And that's hitting the spray about 30ft off the line( to reduce wheelspin & breakage). |

It's an MSD part. You connect the box to your MSD box underhood and mount a little control knob in your car. You can then advance or retard your timing(15degrees of adjustability) just by turning the knob. I set mine up so I can go from 5deg. to 20deg. I ordered mine from Summit a few years ago, and it was like $75-$80.

I don't have a Summit catalog handy so I grabbed JEG'S, they have it for$95.99 if you use an MSD ign. PN#121-8680. For Ford TFI it's $142.99 PN#121-8682.
