Default help with supercharger

heyy guys i was wondering if I could put a cobra supercharger on my 96 gt to get some extra horespower kinda of the cheaper way. I was wondering if it could be done and about how much work and money it would take to do so. If not what is a good twin screw supercharger for about 2,000 to 3,000?

thanks, Monroegt

May I ask why you are looking for a roots style blower in particular? There are many used systems available on mustang forums and ebay (though I take no responsibility for someone screwing you out of every penny with ebay).

I would go with a centrifugal type blower. Vortech S Trim, Paxton Novi 2000, etc. I think you'll be very happy with either one of them.

I am not only interested in the roots style superchargers. I just had noticed that superchargers from cobra's were going for cheap and I was interested to see if this would be a wise purchace or not. Thank you for replying and making me think more about going with a vortech kit which was my first pick.

thanks, monroegt

I think it'd be a bigger PITA trying to fit the eaton to your setup then getting a SC specifically for your ride. Probably find some decent deals on the web for '96.

The eaton from a Cobra will not fit on your 2V GT.

I'd go with something along the lines of a S-trim or a Novi 1000.

I'd stay away from the Novi 2000 mentioned above with your car. IMHO it is too big for your car. A 2000 falls basicly right between a T-trim and a YSi trim in terms of size

I was wondering the same thing. Eatons fresh off the Cobra are going so cheap, and every shop in town i talk to about a Supercharger makes it an 6 or 8 thousand dollar venture. "ya gotta upgade the fuel sys, ya gotta upgrade the ignition sys. ya gota give us all your money..."

When the Manufacters say you don't have to do any of that stuff if your running mild (6psi) boost. I cheked Vortech, Kenne Belle, Powerdyne, and Paxton, All say the first level of forced induction can be done without the other stuff. But every shop forces it on you. I don't want torace, I just want a little more pep in my slow 97 engine.

Shops do have to cover their tails too. Doing free warrantee work probably costs them a lot. Not too many people leave their blowers alone either. I've gone from 5 psi to 14 psi in a year or so!

well, if you build a 250 horse 302 and add 20lbs of boost from a supercharger, that ought to max it out, or build a 400 horse 347 and give it 10 lbs of boost from a supercharger, that ought to do it also,

a turbo motor will hang in there a little longer than a supercharger motor so all boost is not totally equal. id worry about my block any time i saw 500 hp through it no matter what though.
