Default NOVI 1000 big enough???

I have a built 331 stroker with a main support that is just a touch under 10 to 1 compression, worked Canfield heads, big comp cams stroker cam .579/.579 236/248 @.050 and an Edelbrock RPM Performer II intake manifiold etc...

This motor should put out close to 400 at the wheels but now I have decided to put a supercharger on it as well to guarantee a 10 second car.

I want about 490 at the wheels. I figure 6-7 psi of boost should get me there.

Any opinions?

IMO you'll need more than 7lbs of boost for 90hp.

I dont know this is a very free flowing set-up. I should start small and work my way up up with the boost if it takes 10 or 12 #'s so be it but I dont think it will.

490 RWHP is about 570 flywheel and the Novi 1000 is rated at 650HP flywheel. So I guess what I really need help with is should I start out with a Novi 2000 or S-trim instead. I hate doing things twice.

Thanks,

Well, I like the fact that the Novi's are self contained but once you get into 12+lbs your gonna have bigger headaches to worry about like belt slip, which means a possible need for cog pullies, which means better blowoff valve, more fuel requirements, stronger brackets, etc...Is your tranny and rearend ready for 500RWHP?

My rear end is good to go but the tranny is stock. I have have been considering rebuilding it myself with some high end parts.

I am already so deep into this project I am considering just going with a Turbo set-up.

I am still waying my options but either way next season will be a blast.

Thanks for your opinion,

Well, I just got a free S-trim, off a 95. I'm sending it back to Vortech this month for a rebuild and stronger bearings, I'm going for 20lbs on my little 331 and hoping for the best. Might even spray a 50 shot to keep it cool. Ordered an AFM power pipe and vortech discharge tube with the maxflow race bypass valve. Need brackets and belt and will be evaluating my fuel requirements...Gonna need that damn cage welded in now.

I'm hoping...LOL, I can't beleive it's lasted this long. I've run a 150 shot for a few passes running 10.90's on it, launching at 6k everytime, I even launch at 6k on all motor and she's still holding, it's gotta be one of those rare freak things...I've been waiting to upgrade...

Dark, let me tell you what I got and the numbers I put out...maybe it'll help put you into perspective to where you want to go with HP numbers:

DSS Pro Bullet 331 stroker motor
(I actually don't know the cam)
AFR 185s
GT40 intake
8.5:1 compression

I'm running between 10 and 12 psi on my Novi 1000, and I made 541 rwhp, and 557 rwtq.

As a sad, side note, I launched this sucker with a Tremec 3550 at the track on slicks at about 3500-4000 RPMs. Let's just say the input and output shafts on that thing were floppin' all around after 2 launches. As not to scare you, my tremec was at least 6 years old (I've replaced it with a TKO600)

Before this setup, I also had a GT40 crate motor (302 ci) with 10:1 compression. I ran just 5 psi on the same Novi 1000 and I put out 408 rwhp and 395 rwtq.

I hope that helps!
