My first Supercharger
I recently acquired a low compression 306 short block, and I am thinking of using a blower on it. I plan on getting some AFR 185 heads and all the other assorted goodies. This will be the first supercharged motor in one of my cars, and I am wondering if anyone had any advice on brands I should go with. I am not planning on having more than 9 pounds of boost, and I would like something that is somewhat easy to install, since this is the first one I have built and all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Blowin'n Goin'
As far a installation goes the Powerdyne is the easiest and cheaper than the others. Power is limited to around 400 to 500 hp on a built motor unless you go with the new X. Going with a Vortech,Paxton or Procharger is a good idea if you want a setup that you can build on later. What year model stang do you have?

I'm in a similar situation. My DSS Pro Bullet 306 with AFR 185s has around 1600 miles on it now and I'm ready to order my s/c. I have 8.7:1 compression and all along I've had my mind set on a NOVI 2000. DSS said my particular app could easily handle 15 psi, which should easily make 530 or so rwhp.
Paxtons are relatively easy, no I haven't installed one yet, but there is no intercooler to mess with so that makes it easier right away. The general thing I've heard is that if there's one thing that sets the Paxtons apart its the brackets. They are simply the best design and the strongest. I met the owner of this site, I believe his name is Dan, at the Ford 100 Year Anniversary Celebration in Dearborn, MI this weekend and he showed me the Paxton he has on his car, and explained to me how easy it is to put tension on the belts, and how belt slippage simply isn't an issue. Considering you can now get NOVI 2000s for around $3000 satin and $3300 polished from musclemotors.com, there's no reason not to pick up a Paxton. Thats just my opinion though, there's no doubt that Vortech and ATI are good also, but let me close with this, what was the first supercharger ever offered as a FACTORY option on Mustangs in the 60s? Yep, Paxton. Good luck!

I have the NOVI, and it is a killer setup......much better design than the Procharger I had. Like 94ViperT56 stated, the brackets are probably the best out there, and the belt tensioner is awesome......I can use a 1/4 drive an 1 finger to adjust the tension.
I'd say the S-trim or the NOVI 2000 would be a good choice. Both run well at 10psi and can run much more. Since this is your first blower car, I'd give one of these a try. If you up the boost, your heading for the 500hp mark, which means more parts to support the added power. |

Here is one (Powerdyne BD-11) sitting on an engine making 621 rwhp. And it is my car so I know from first hand experience that they are good blowers. I would of loved to go with another brand at the time of installation but money was tight. I now have no regrets whatsoever

I'd say if you are budget minded the Novi 1000 is the best blower for the money. They make great power and come with quality accessories and brackets. If you have the extra cash, the Novi 2000 is a huge step above it. Makes tons of power on just about any engine from street to wild, plus you can cog drive them and go crazy.
I'm not a big fan of the Powerdyin's, they have internal belt issues. One guy I knew had a BD-11 that snapped 3 belts before he traded to a Novi 1000. No problems now. |

I am runnig a 255 in tank and the bbk in line fuel pump. I am not too sure how many gallons it is rated at. I need to move up to the 55# injector as it is. But the money is tight right now

A stock fuel system 255 pump in tank in BBK is not enough to support 750 rwhp. That puts your car around 825 fly wheel. If my calculation is right, you will need more than 42 pound injectors and a lot more fuel. I blew my first motor with 42 pound injectors and I only had 585 rwhp. That was around 650 to the fly wheel. I had two pumps 255 and a in line T-Rex. I had to upgrade to a complete fuel system with 10 lines 8 return and 2 weldon 2025 and 55 pound injectors. You should take your car to a different Dyno because it's giving you the wrong numbers. You would have blown your motor on the first pass.

I beg to differ. We can flame on this issue all day long. 42lb injectors will easily support up to 825hp. It tends to lean out up top. I have had many top engine builders work on my car and they agree I should have 55lb injectors but with the right dyno tune and rev limiter 42 injector will work. And my fuel pumps are more than enough to support my set-up. Now If you would like I can get into detail by giving you phone numbers to verify everything.thank you sir
