Is a Ported Stock Intake Worth It?
I have a friend that has a stock 5.0 intake that was ported and extrude honed. He's asking $200 and it only has about 3k miles on it.
He said it will outflow a stock Cobra intake. This intake will be for a 89 GT that is Stock except for Dynomax exhaust and Pulleys. Do you think this is a good deal? I was planning on getting heads but not for a while. Will I see any improvement if I just use the intake with the stock heads?? ------------------ 91 GT AOD: 14.71@91.78mph SOLD!! 01 GT 5-speed on order: Released from Plant, awaiting convoy to dealer |

You should see a little improvement with it and if it is extrude honed it will outflow the gt-40 but not by much. The great thing about it is you will have an intake that looks stock but flows like an expensive intake. The extrude honed intake will also have a better runner balance than most after market intakes.
It will make a bigger improvement when you get some heads. I would get gt-40 heads if you’re on a budget, you can usually find them for around 400 dollars used. ------------------ James Cox nochevy@hotmail.com 1991 Mustang LX No good times with 347 stroker yet! |

As far as heads go, I'm not on that much of a budget. I'm looking into getting a pair of GT-40's by December.
I guess I'll buy the intake then. 200 bucks is a pretty good deal when I think about it. It MIGHT give me a tenth in the 1/4 but who knows. Only one way to find out. ------------------ SOLD: 91 GT AOD 14.71@91.78mph 89 GT 5-speed: No times yet...STOCK!! 58k miles |

If your not on a budget then go for some trick flow heads to make more room for future mod’s.

I was looking at Trick Flow, GT-40, or AFR heads. Are there any big differences between the three heads??

An excellent flowing intake for $200....I'd say that's an awesome deal.
Usually to get something extrude honed (according to the extrude hone price catalog) The process with the upper and lower intake costs $500. They also flow match all the runners to flow equally and then increase them all together. I heard that the runners flow within 10% or less of each other whereas alot of aftermarket ones are pretty varied. ------------------ Mustang Parts Specialties ripped me off, don't buy from them. Well, $500 sounds about right. This kid paid $400 and some change. He ended up selling his 93 GT before he put the intake on it.

Well, I told him I wanted it so he's holding it for me. I should have it in 2 weeks or so. Stock 5.0 upper and lower...extrude honed...no miles on it since the machine work. I can't wait to get it on
