Default Ignition!

I have a 5.0 H.O engine out of a mustang gt which i am now starting to put into my 84 ford ranger, i am not trying to figure out what i need for my engine electrical system, i know i need a distributor so i got a duraspark II unit and i am gettin an msd blaster coil, now do i need to get an ignition module? should i get the duraspark II model, and what does the ignition module do and where does it hook up to, i know one connecter connects to the distributor, where does the other go? also i have one other problem i want to run a serpentine belt but i dont know what was originally run on the car is there any way i can figure out the rotation of the water pump now that it is on the engine so that i make sure it spins in the right direction for my belt?. Thanks
