1998 Mustang Cobra Chip question.

I am new to this board and I am not sure if I am posting this question in the right place or not. I want to get a performance chip and am not sure what to get. I see lots of "chips" on ebay for $6.99 on up to $399. Will the cheaper chips perform the same job as the more expensive chips, or are they just ripping people off? I don't want to spen a lot but want a good chip (increase HP, and lower gas mileage). Any advice? Thanks

Rich

Confusious say..."you get what you pay for." If you only spend $6.99, then expect to get $6.99 worth of value. Depending on your modifications, a respectable chip/programmer could expect to add 10-15rwhp.

the cheap ones work simply on the principal of tricking the computer into thinking it is colder than it actually is so the computer will advance the timing. I would shy away from these because if it advances timing too much it will predetonate and bad things will happen. I reccomend getting a more expensive programmer with a tune for your your car. Yes they cost more but there is a lot more development done to get you a good safe tune that will make power. They also help with future modifications, if you need less timing because you installed a supercharger/nitrous you can. I have a Diablo Predator chip for my 03 GT. It datalogs, adjusts timing/fuel, fixs speedometer if you change gears or tires among other things. Another chip to consider is a SCT excalibrator which does everything the predator does.
