Question Best clutch - your opinion?

I still have my stock clutch currently. I plan on diving into the low-mid 11's with a supercharger in the near future. What clutch would you recommend?

Being that I never changed my clutch, what should I expect to feel (if anything) if/when I do get a better one?

Get the King Cobra. It's cheap and hold up nicely. I have too many passes to count on mine with 5000 rpm drops on slicks and it's still going fine.

My vote is for the Center Force Dual Friction with either the CF or King Cobra pressure plate...

Centerforce Dual Friction. My torque destroyed a King Cobra.

Question

I don't NEED a clutch....my stock's fine right now. But, with the Supercharger, I was thinking I should upgrade. Or, should I wait until it's gone?????

Wait to see if your clutch slips because of the added power.

Are you the original owner of the car?

Cool

Yeah, I'm the original owner. And it's only taken my 11 years to hit 12K! How do you like the 351? I drove my friends Stang w/ a 351......it was so awesome feeling all that natural power. What did the 351 run you?

All my 5.0 buddies and myself have the King Cobra clutch. I've never heard anything but positive remarks about this clutch. That is why I decided to go with it.

351 is great. It has gobs and gobs of torque. It's quick with 2.73 gears.

I never really tallied the cost. It's something that my wife and I don't discuss. I went all out and got everything at once when my 302 was giving up the ghost. I'd say there's about $4000 in the engine, though. I also got a Tremec 3550 and King Cobra clutch about the same time. The clutch didn't last too long, so I upgraded it to a Centerforce.

If you're planning on going low-11's, I think you're going to have to start looking at more stout clutches than the King Cobra. I'd really recommend that you step up to a 11 inch long-style pressure plate to begin with. This will mean a change to a 164 tooth flywheel, but at that HP its well worth it. I ran the Ram 900 series sintered iron clutch last year. It was a nice clutch, but on the aggressive side for everyday driving. For a car that sees mostly street miles with mild strip duty, I think I'd recommend the following:

164-tooth aluminum flywheel
11-inch long-style pressure plate (non adjustable)
Centerforce dual-friction disk

Remember that at 11.99, you need to be SFI certified for bellhousing, flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disk. There's not many SFI certified diaphram style pressure plates out there. Beside, the long-style will give tons more clamping force with less pedal effort.

Some companies to check out are Ram, Hayes (yuk), Spec, McCleod, and Star. The Zoom and Centerforce disks won't be SFI certified. Make sure you discuss this with the tech people when you're selecting your parts.

I have the original type Ford Motorsports clutch,(B-302??) nice for a daily driver, the pedal effort is quite a bit more than the standard clutch it had previously. The king Cobra is supposed to have nearly the same holding power with less effort. No mods were required, I put a new clutch cable in for good measure along with a new motorsports flywheel.

After reading the other posts, I would save up for the heavy duty centerforce unit and maybe a SFI bellhousing and flywheel for your projected low to mid 11 ET's Better safe than watch your flywheel rip through your floorpan and take your jewls off
