%.0 idel speed
I reciently purchased an 87 GT. The problem is the idle is around 1200. any ideas on how I can get it down to the recommended Idel RPM. The air box has been removed. Thanks In advance. Max

Here goes...
Disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. Unplug the idle air motor. It is on the side of the throttle body, facing the front of the car. It is tube shaped. Start the car and set the idle with the idle speed screw (on the other side of the throttle body) to 600 rpm. Now adjust the throttle position sensor. It is held by 2 phillip screws on the top of the throttle body. You need to probe the green+ and black- wires with a digital voltmeter. Slightly loosen the 2 screws on the sensor and adjust it to read about .95 volts. Recheck the voltage after you tighten the screws down. Shut the car off, plug the Idle air motor back in and start the car, idling with all electrical accessories on for 2 minutes. Shut it off for 2 minutes. Restart the car again and let it idle for 2 more minutes with no accessories on. This is how you completely reset the computer correctly. That will work---assuming there is no underlying problem with the EEC system. I once had a faulty ISC-BPA that caused the idle to stay constant at 1200 rpm. Check your EEC codes, first. If there is no problem, than reset your idle speed using the set screw. You got to wonder how it got messed up in the first place. jake
