Default 347 stroker questions

Hi there, I am currently building a 347 stroker using eagle steel crank, forged eagle h-beam rods and custom forged je pistons, trick flow twisted wedge heads and edelbrock performer rpm intake with a c4 auto. What I am wondering is what other people run for mph on the track or make for numbers on the dyno. I also am considering getting the heads and intake stage 2 or 3 ported by fox lake. Will the stage 2 help me out and will the stage 3 hurt me. I know that to much could hurt me but I am unsure. Would the extra cubes benefit from the stage 3 port job? I will also be spraying either a dry 150 shot or going to the big shot efi wet system. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

If you are gonna spend the money to port the heads you would be better off buying AFR 165 or 185 heads. With a 347 you probably could do the 185's with good results. Even with a fairly mild cam you are looking at over 400hp easy

I will never own a set of afr heads. Trick Flow is the best head for the money. Why would I go buy new heads when I have some that out flow afr's out of the box. AFR inflates there flow no numbers by flowing them with a 4.125 bore.

Sorry I didnt know you already had the tfs heads. TFS are great heads and i will be running them on my car but I believe the AFr's are a bit better especially with the CNC porting from the factory.

The cnc is nice, but I have done a little porting on them. I gasket matched both intake and exhaust and blended the bowls. They are damn near as good as cnc.

CNC porting only matters for balance. If you have a flowbench, it doesn't matter at all because you can match the runners. A CNC port job is only as good as the program put into it by the operator...

While TFS heads are great heads, and I believe they can hang with a set of AFR 165's, but I don't see them outflowing a set of AFR 185's. I've seen both heads in person, and the AFR's look like better heads IMO.

Instead of having your heads ported I would just sell them and get a set of AFR 205's and a Victor Jr intake.

If you decide to stick with your heads, I would at least ditch the RPM in favor of a Vic Jr.

I will be buying a victor 5.0 intake when i have the money. I will not own a set of junk afr heads. You build a 347 with whatever afr heads you want and I will build a 347 with trick flows and we will compare numbers.....ok?

Ha-ha! That's pretty funny man. You must be the first person I've ever heard refer to AFR heads as "junk". Comparing TFS & AFRs straight out of the box...the AFRs DEFINITELY out flow your TFS. I know you ported your current heads...but AFRs are far from junk.

Actually an out of the box set of 165's don't outflow TFS heads...they are similar. You can use the "bigger valve in the TFS head" argument but I don't buy it, you can run cams just as large with the rotated valve placement of the TFS. A good port job on the TFS heads will put them WAY outflowing even AFR 205's. AFR's also have an equally crappy valvetrain (particularly springs) unless you pay for an upgrade.
However with that being said, I would never consider either head "junk", they are both great just in different respects.

Ha its funny you call afr heads junk. I dont want to get into a pissing contest with you because you are obviously biased but the AFR heads are by far not junk and are arguably the best head on the market. I am pretty sure with my work i have been around more hi po engines than you have and the majority of them use AFR heads.

Now that isnt to say TFS are junk because they arent. the TFS heads are damn nice as well and like I already stated I will use them on my car when I buy the total top end kit from Summit.

I dont know if you get Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords but they went through a pretty in depth article about cylinder head testing you might want to check out

both heads are quality heads. I just think the TFS heads are a little small for you combo, that's why I suggested the 205's.

Make sure you have you machine shop go over that Eagle crank real well - especiall on the journals, they have been known to be out of tolerance. Just an FYI.

What do you consider hi po engines? What times are we talking about? I have been around and watch and helped build plenty of motors. How about a sbc running 8.80's on motor and 8.10's on a 200 shot of spray in a 3600lb car? Or how about a bbf putting down 900hp on all motor-TFS Head? Or how about a little sbf 331 running 10.60's on all motor-TFS Head? Or how about a stock short block 302 running a best of 10.72 with 6psi through a supercharger and through a 5speed in a fox body-gt40 head? Or how about a 405ci sbf running a 8.60's on spray in also in a fox body mustang? Or how about a 302 running high 11's with a 60ft of 2.2 because he is foot braking the car-TFS Head? Now....do you want me to continue with more motors that I have built or helpped pick combos on?

Jesus if your such an f'n expert what do you need our feeble mind's for then??

Also there is nothing like holley systemax heads. No cnc and less compression than afr's and they still shoot out great numbers.
