1 3/4 equal length headers??????

I feel I need better headers than the 1 5/8 BBK equal length headers that I have for my 331 stroker.

I just bought new Mac exhaust that costed a left nut so I am sticking with shorty headers over longtubes.

If anyone knows of a company that sales them let me know.

I've never seen equal length shorties in 1 3/4". The only two 1 3/4 shorties that I know of are the MAC and Bassani unequal length (you can find them at Anderson Ford).

Yes, I seen the un-equal's in that size, we put some on a near stock 302, yea i know, the guy had some laying around, and he didnt have anything else to use, it actually ran pretty good....but for a 331 that would be a hot ticket i would guess.

For the price of the Bassani 1 3/4 headers I can buy long tubes and a new X-pipe.

Mac 1 3/4 shorties it is.

Thanks guys,

I chose the MAC as well - they fit well and still look good (coated version). Power wise I'm happy.

if you can get long tubes and a new h-pipe for the same cost as the shorties, then go long tubes. you cant compare long tubes to short headers

Re: 1 3/4 equal length headers??????

You have to admit, the long tubes would kick the short tubes butt at this power level. However, I know I have to remain emission legal, get it by a blowshield, and get over speed bumps on a street driven car. If I had a full on race car where the last 25-35hp was really important that would be my choice.....

why cant long tubes pass a smog test or speed bumps??

Re: 1 3/4 equal length headers??????

No one makes a long tube header that is emissions legal. They figure the only people who use long tubes put them on race cars and they won't spend the $1000's of dollars to make an attempt to get them past the EPA. The 02 sensors are also not in the usual spots which makes running a vehicle in closed loop more difficult. The long tubes hang down further below the engine on the later Mustangs. They don't hang as far down on the newer cars though.

Re: 1 3/4 equal length headers??????

i looked at the bbk web site and see that all the long tubes are listed as non emisions legal. here in the county that i live in we dont have such a problem- no emissions testing at all.
