![]() I witnessed a BONE STOCK 01 Trans Am ws6 pull a 12.9. Most will run low to mid 13's.

![]() Uh Oh. The can of worms has been opened again. Let me go hump an LS-1 right quick like.
![]() I heard they run sub 9 sec quarter mile times at 240 Mph with a Stick-O-Matic. Serouisly though, only one here has turned in 12's, and it was 12.8X at 106 or 107(And he's got some subframes, and other chassis stiffners, a lid, and a K&N) and that was once. Most run mid 13's here. You might get the occasional guy break as low as 13.3, but not often at all.

![]() I think the variance in speed is caused by the factory engines being really different one from each other. Some produce monster power out of the box others are just normal.
At the track here most of the LS1s run bests of 13.5... I have seen one run a 13.19 with exaust done, and this weekend one ran 12.99 with exaust and street (DOT approved) slicks. There main issue is launching. The torque band is very strong at low RPMs, so either you get wheel spin on start or as soon as you ease into it. Most of them run 2.2-2.3 - 60ft times. Putting a set a slicks on them is a gamble as well since their rear end is not toughest.

![]() Damn you for having the color I wanted Lizard!!!
![]() Expect a phenominal driver to get an ultra high 12 out of a great running stock LS1. On average, mid 13's. With crappy driver, high 13's. With really crappy driver, 14's. |

![]() Yeah GM definitley tends to make a few freak LS1's hear and there. Have you guys read the MM&FF where the test the Bullitt against an SS (Not a fair fight, the Bullitt should go against a more equal Z28)? Well anyway, they ran a 12.9X at around 105 and on the chassis dyno it 321 RWHP! WTF??? That's only 4 FWHP short of it's factory rating. Either GM is modest as hell with their rating or they developed some kind of new fangled drivetrain that puts all the power the engine produces to the ground. You guys shouldn't fear the LS1's too much though. The have NOTHING in the way of aftermarket stuff and their drivers tend to suck at driving. I know were talking LS1's here but a couple days ago I raced 94' LT1 6-speed at a S/L and at the first light he stalled on the launch! (Ha Ha!) Then we were lucky enough to get caught at another light down the street. This time he didn't stall but we raced to around 60 and I had a good half car length on him. (HA! 'Ol Slow triumphs again!) His car should've smoked me considering it's got 60+HP stock and a it's stick.(Not to mention it's got a couple of bolt ons.) This kid was real embarassed when we got back to school because he just got whooped twice by a car 215 hp and an auto.

![]() The LS1 doesnt have much of an aftermarket cause it doesnt need one. There isnt alot of improvement that could be dont to the heads and intake. LS1's with all the bolt ons and gears go 11's in the 1/4 mile. The only time I get nervous is when I hear the car next to me purging or when I look over and see an LS1 or a grand national.
I personaly wouldnt buy an LS1 but they are damn quick!!

![]() Sure the LS1s are fast but have u ever rode in or driven one with more than 20k miles on the clock? They are rattle boxes and the integrety is poor to very poor. To top it all off my mothers Chevy Cavalier shares almost the same interior, how sad. Quick in a straight line yes, but have u ever tried to go around a corner???
I'd rather have my mustang anyday.........

![]() I have seen 1 high 12 pass and several low to mid 13s from LS-1 F-bodies, but many high 12s from C5s and a few low 12s from the ZO6. I hate lining up with FBodies because even with the worst driver, I cannot hold them off with their 105-109 mph trap speeds.
The LT-1 has been my favorite snack, but I must admit that I do have to launch perfect, or the hunter becomes the hunted. Scary thing about the LS-1 is even with a blower (8 psi) on the SOHC, the LS-1, with a good driver, still has a chance to win. Eh, I guess it really doesn't matter anymore since the FBody is no more and Vette guys don't usually race. |

![]() 8psi on a PI 2v 4.6 or a 4 cammer should have no prob dispatching of LS-1's.
Them Mod motors love boost.

![]() Agreed. 8psi on just about ANY modular 4.6L should have LS-1 beating potential, and on the newer one's you'll own the LS-1 in stock format.

![]() As a matter of fact, I went to the track yesterday and did witness such an event. A blown 96-98 GT went 12s (didn't pay too much attention to the number) while a poor guy with an SS Camaro was going 13.0s most of the day. Now he did admit that he had to baby it because it has that 7.5 rear, but hey, you know what they say...come to win! GM needs to go back to the drawing board the next time they build a 'sports car'. The 2 Vettes that were there didn't any better. Oh well...
