Default Ford's bullet holes

Have you ever noticed that there is about one thousand holes in your engine compartment? Well I have because I'm in the process of filling them in with my trusty welder. Can anyone tell me the reason behind all of these holes? 95% of them are'nt being used no matter if it's a 5.0 or 2.3.

Well, can we make it simple and say for lightening purposes??? hehehe

Actually they are for mounting stuff. Keep in mind that those parts are used on Mustangs, Granadas, Fairmonts, Merc Marquis, Thunderbirds etc etc etc. Now in each of those cars, you can have anything from a 4 cyl with the battery on the driver's side, to a big bad V8 with the battery on the passenger's side.

Lots and lots and lots of car/engine configurations, only one stamp needed to make the engine compartments.

Hope that helps! Happy hole filling!

This is where the "Fox Body" Mustang got it's name. I also forgot to metion the Zephyr, and a few Lincoln's too. Cougar's, Capri's, and some Wagon versions of these too.

Here's a partial list:

http://www.ford-fox.org/faq.php?myfa...s=Fox+vehicles

Ford used that chassis on a TON of vehicles. You'll find "extra" plugs in your wiring harness for that reason too. That particular plug might not be used on your application, but a Turbo Coupe T-Bird might have needed it.

I dont remember where I heard this, but someone once told me they are there to create a crumple zone in crashes to absorb impact.

Black85GT That car looks like my old 85GT... How many miles? And the impact thought seems interesting.

Well, I know the hood is rigged to fold at the halfway point. If you take a look underneath, the reinforcement ribs along the sides have a notch so the hood will buckle there.

From personal experience with some collisions, these cars buckle a lot =( . Fortunatley, they are as easy to straighten out.

while welding all of these holes up, I also welded the subframe to the inner fender. It was a seem that looked like it could use a weld. It probably won't help anything but, just maybe it will help tie everything together..
