![]() OK I have been looking for some E7TE heads for my car(for the 302 swap), but can really find any in my price range. My neighbor has a 1970 fastback and he said I he would sell my the heads off the car cheap(he went with 289 heads) Are these heads anygood or should keep searching for some E7TE's.

![]() I don't think he has an extra set, but he'll be selling the ones off his car in spring. They're ported really well and shaved .030" which will raise compression a bit.
The heads he's got flow ALMOST as well as mine ![]() Hell I may be sellin my heads next summer if another friend sells his ported edelbrock's to me. If so, I'll cut you a good deal. They've recently been flattened and had a 3 angle valve job and I spent about 12 hours porting them.

![]() What I really want to know is how the 1970 heads will flow compared to E7's.

![]() From what i've read i think they flow a little bit better than the E7TE heads especially on the exhaust side (but only if the 289 heads don't have bumps in the exhaust ports for air injection). I read an article about a low buck 400 horsepower naturally aspirated 302 that used 289 heads with 1.8?" intake and 1.54 exhaust valves, but the heads were extensively hand ported and polished on the exhaust side. So basically they're pretty close flow wise to the E7TE's and the combustion chamber shape is about the same as well (fairly shrouded valves) which is another area that could be worked for more power.
If you're going to have a carbureted engine in your car, the 289 heads would be better than most garbage 70's and early to mid 80's heads as well. Another option that's fairly cheap as well is pre-'74 (i believe) 351W heads because they already have the larger valves and larger ports and if you can find some without the thermactor bump in the exhaust they flow pretty well for a stock head. So TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.....i don't have any flow data or anything, but i can find some, i believe that the heads you mentioned MAY flow better. If they're already set up with better springs/performance valve job, etc. then they're probably worth the trouble of buying. ....i'll try to find some flow data for you

![]() flow numbers go as follows in 28" of h20
289-302 heads 1.78 intake valve 1.48 exhaust intake .100-49.9 .200-91.2 .300-132.5 .400-154.5 .500-168 exhaust .100-41 .200-71.6 .300-95.1 .400-110.7 .500-120.1 .600-124.8 e7ta-aa same valve size intake .100-55.4 .200-101.3 .300-140.9 .400-150.8 .500-164.6 exhaust .100-42 .200-78.9 .300-102.4 .400-110.8 .500-114.2 They can flow much better with a mild home port. Hope this helps. Also since your compression will be raised you'll be adding about 10 hp from the point gained. Add that to the porting another 10-15 and you've got some nice numbers there.

![]() All I can tell you is that my Dad had a 1970 stang convertible with a 302 and a automatic, and that car wouls smoke the tires easily, and it was completely stock. I dont think you could go wrong with a set of 1970 heads.
