Default Cams

A friend of mine is building a 302 with GT-40 aluminums, edelbrock intake, and was wondering what cam to run. His choice's are TFS Stage 1, Lunati 51014? (I think), F-303. The reason for only these choices are they are immediately available to him (ie. used but in good shape from reputable people). Which one should he run? I suggested the TFS Stg. 1. I'm running the F 303, but I think the TFS is a better choice. Just want some more opinions.

They are all pretty decent cams. If it was my decsion I would run the Lunati if it is the 51014. A buddy has that cam and it rocks.. And for the 2nd choice I would go with the TFS stage 1.

I have the Lunati cam in my car and i love it. I had the "E" cam in it for a while. I gained 3 tenths and Almost 3 MPH with the lunati over the "E". The biggest differance that i noticed is the top end pull of the Lunati. LUNATI !!!!!! I like it.

Hey, man...I'm considering a cam as my next mod as well. I have completely stock 93 Cobra motor and have a great racing mechanic to do the work, but have very little $$$ to do it. Lunatti for me too? Do you ever race at Orlando Speedworld? March 2-3 is a Fun Ford Weekend there that I hope we can get lots of Board memebers out to....thanks for any advice! Later!

Thanks for the replies so far! I guess I should have done this with a poll too, oh well. I ruled out the F-303 cam, so its either the 51014 (that's what I'm told it is) and the TFS Stage 1. For comparison sake, I put the cam specs into the desktop dyno 2000 (yeah I know, computers may not be that accurate). I put in all the proper flow numbers for his heads, and really the only thing I can see is that the TFS cam makes slightly more power at a lower rpm over the Lunati. The torque curves seem the same. Keep in mind I only ran it on that program just to see if there's a difference. He's gonna get which ever cam on the day after Christmas.

Good Post, 86GT!! I got some good info on this one. I hope to get the cam done as my next mod.
5ohCOUPE: I hear Gainesville raceway is the best track in the state. I hope to run up there sometime soon in 2002 when they start up Fri night street races again. A friend of mine just moved there a few months ago, so I'll have a place to stay & try to get his 67 coupe with built 351W out there(should be at least a low 13 sec car, but never been on a track). I will definately be in Gainesville for the fun ford weekend June 7-9. Let me know next time you plan on being there! Later!
