94 GT Convertible can't even peel out!
A friend of mine owns a 94GT Convert, w/newly rebuild AODE. All Stock. He's only owned it for 1 month and thought the lack of performance was due to the bad trans. Come to find out the car seems to run fine but doesn't have enough go juice to peel out.
-I don't think this is normal. New tune up and fuel pump. Not sure about the timing. Another friend owns a 95GT 5sp which woops it's butt. (also stock). Any thoughts..??? thanks.... |

A stock '94 Convertible with the AODE is going to be the slowest pony in the stable.
Even a stock 5-speed will be a good half-second faster, which is a lot. Taking it to the track and getting an et would tell you if it's unnaturally slow or just average (low-to-mid 15's). The usual remedy for a slow AOD Mustang is 4.10 gears and a shift kit, to start. That will wake it up. Then, engine mods follow as desire for speed and cash allow. |

Have him get the TPS checked I will bet you it's bad. Mine is bad and I changing it this week. I have full exaust. and cold air induction, msd box, msd coil,pro-m 75mm,65 bbk TB,155LPH,12 degrees timing, and just did a tune up. AND WITH MY TPS BAD I CAN'T EVEN PEEL OUT. IT HAS A BIG HESITATION. ESPECIALLY WITH THE A/C ON.

Its all about gears and a converter.I had 4.10s in mine when it was and AOD. Even with the gears the car didnt move without a converter. The stock one is way too big. Dont waste your money on a cheap one. I did and that is why I have a T-5 now. The cheap one let loose a whole bunch of metal in my tranny and chewed it all up, But it did make a noticable differance in the perforance of my ride.

TPS? I don't know. The best way to find that out is to do a quick voltage check. Mine was bad and it just idled poorly and had some hesitation off the line.
Not being able to peel out is either a power or driveline issue, and if the car has good pull on the road (Mr 5.0 has a good idea about the track), chances are its the driveline (much like chipdog said). ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |

ya, the 94-95 AOD vert is the slowest, save the 96-98 AOD vert. take it to the track, see what you get. since you can't spin the tires, i won't have to yell about people spinning their tires when they go to the track

I can't make my 94 aod vert spin the tires at a dead stop with out doing a brake stand. However when I do get on the gas at a dead stop, the tires will sometimes squeel when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd...sometimes even enough to get a little sideways.

OK thanks for the info. I'll have him check the TPS. I also think that if he wants more performance then he should consider advancing the timing, changing to a smaller converter then adding some gears.

well I have 3:73 gears and a 2500 stall, and since the TPS decides how much fuel you get i think that could have some affect. and a shift kit will make a squeel from 1st to 2, and 96-98 don't have aode trannys,

50 mph??? not that fast...I think it's more like 25 to 35 mph and it doesn't do it all the time. Maybe it's because my tires are bald and it's raining at the time...jusk kidding
