Question 2 tenths off 1/4

I ran my car for the first time and was surprised to see it ran a 14.2 figuring its mostly stock and its got an aod. I want to get into the 13s. What can I do, thats cheap, to get into 13s? Could advancing the timing help that much? It was set at stock.
thanks

yes adjusting the timing can help a lot

i've read articles where they bumped the timing and got as much as 10-15hp out of it

sounds like your running pretty strong as it is, when mine was an AOD i was stuck in the 14s for what seemed to be eternity (the real problem was that i was racing at a crappy track)

have you pulled your air silencer and put in a K&N filter yet? if not, then do it its very cheap (air silencer removal=free)

are you shifting the AOD yourself (1-d-1 shift), if not then that will give you about 2 tenths by itself

all of this combined (if you dont have them already) should eaily get you into the 13's
good luck

I do have a k&n filter. I didnt want to manually shift it because it seems like it takes a second or to shift. I should probably put some synt fluid in it. What should I shift at. When I ran it stayed at about 5200 constantly. I didnt even notice the shifts. It would probably help if I practiced launching also. When I got the 14.20 I launched at like 1200. It was lower than when I first tried and went at idle. I wanted to try to go at like 2000 or 2500 but it was like another hour and a half wait.
What should I set the timing at?
Thanks

Set the timing at 14 degrees; use premium gas (92 octane, minimum).

Change to synthetic transmission fluid.

Your launch and shift points sound fine.
A 14.2 is a superb et for a 'stock' AOD; about a second off normal stock AOD et.
Those gears, plus the exhaust and pullies really help. 13's are almost yours now.

you wont be able to launch at any higher of a RPM unless someone put in a higher stall converter in the car before you owned it

and are you sure that it shifts at 5200? mine never shifted any higher than like 4600

maybe you have a shift kit in there already that raises shift points, but you said you didnt notice the shifts and shift kits will make it shift harder and you would notice that

mine ran best when i set my shift light at 5300RPM so i would shift then and the AOD takes about 150-200 more rpm before it would actually shift, so it would be like a manual shifting at 5450-5500 or so
