Speedcal for 2001 GT auto
I'm getting irratated! Dallas Mustang says they still don't have a Speedcal for the 2001-02 GT autos, and it's not very high on their priority, according to them. Seems they're having some difficulties cracking the new factory code. They're telling everyone to use a $250.00 plus $45.00 installation charge chip to recalibrate the speedo. Well, I don't want a chip! I'm already putting in a Transgo shifter and a Steeda Timing Adjuster, and don't want to pay $300.00 just to re-calibrate my speedo.
Anyone got any alternative sources for equipment to re-calibrate the speedo on a 2001-02 GT auto? I've got a set of Ford Racing 4.10 gears, but I,m holding off with the installation until a speedo cal solution comes along. By the way, ran my new 2001 GT auto with 525 miles on it a couple of times at the track a few weeks ago. Think I may have messed up the launch by leaving the traction aid on. Did a mild burnout to clean the tires and noticed the car went sort of flat as I pulled to the line. Didn't think about the traction aid being on until later. Did this twice! On the two runs went 9.52 and 9.50 sec ETs in 1/8 th mile at about 76.5 mph with 2.25-2.28 60 ft times. Wonder if it would have done better if I had turned the traction aid off before the runs? How much improvement in these times/mph can I expect with a Bassini x-pipe (no cats), Transgo shift kit, 4.10 gears, Steeda timing adjuster at 14 deg, K&N filter, 5w30 Mobil 1 oil, and running 93 octane pump gas? Will I need some sticky tires, ie, Drag Radials, to see full improvements? Do the drag radials come in a compatiable 17" diameter for our GT's? TIA

Hypertech makes a hand held programmer course it costs more then chip you mention. So I dont think that will help. Saleen I think has some kind of flash module. Not sure on cost of it.
As for traction control. You want to turn it off or it will kill your times, especially off the line.

Ares,
Thanks for the reply. Sort of thought the traction control would hurt my times. Can't wait to try it again for a baseline without the traction control before I make any modifications. I'll check out the Hypertech programmer and Steeda flash module. How does the Hypertech work? Do you leave your original chip in place and tie in to it? Anyone have a quess as to what kind of 1/8 th mile improvement I will obtain when I make the modifications I outlined in my original post?
