Question 23 tooth speedo gear any good?

I need to change speedo gears for my 3.55s and the calculator comes up with the 23 tooth gear. I've read that the gear gets chewed up pretty quick, but I've also read that if you grind it down a little with some sand paper it lasts. Anybody have any luck with these? When I swap the engine from my 86 I'll probably change the drive gear to a 7 tooth, but till then I want to know how fast I'm going.

I put in a 21 tooth for now just to make mine closer. Does anyone know what tooth I need for and 88GT with 3.73 gears?? I know my friend with a 91GT and 3.55 needs the 23 tooth so I should need even more right??
