3.08's. There Grrrrrrrrrrreat!!! But How Did They Get In My Rear???
I checked my rear gears because a friend said that i had 4.10's, & I said I had 2.73's. Are these stock gears??? I thought 87-93 mustangs had 2.73's???
Im happy that i dont have to change the gears now, but when I do, I might get a little "NUTTY" & put some 4.10's in!!! ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT, T-5 No Smog Pump (Shorty Belt), Dumps At The End Of Stock H-Pipe, K&N Air Filter (Stock Air Box), Removed air silendcer), 198.9 rwhp @4200 (235 Motor!!), 285 lbs-ft @2900 (336 Motor!!!). It is my understanding that the standards came with 2.73 or 3.08 if requested(no additional charge) The auto's came 3.08 with 3.27 if requested.

Nope. Your right, for the 5spd, 2.73 was standard, 3.08 optional. The autos came with 2.73 standard, 3.08 optional, and 3.27 optional (maybe only on the convert?). Bowtie, your friend is crazy saying you have 4.10s, you have either 2.73 or 3.08 if it is a stock rear, get some 3.55 or 3.73s (I think that 4.10 is too much). If it were me, I would have been praying to find 2.73s in my rear, "If it can do that with 2.73........"

I've got an 88 gt 5 sp, it came with 3.08s stock , i ordered the car from new, they never asked what gear i wanted , had i known at the time i could have had a choice, i would have picked 3.55 .my cousin has had several 5.0s , 86 gt , 88 lx , 89 lx , all s
tock with 3.08s all 5 sp.Around here it seems that most 5 sp 5.0s came with 2.73s after '90 . |

4.10's are too much gear if you really really need to cruise at 100 mph all the time. Other wise you will turn 3 grand at 75 mph.
They are awesome........ Axle codes in the door panel are..... m=2.73 z=3.08 e=3.27(AOD only) ------------------ 4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's Check it out at http://www.burnouts.webprovider.com |

The 3.08's came in the 87's & 88's. When Ford switched to Mass Air in ALL Mustange in 89 they put the 2.73's in for highway driving.
