Default 3.73 or 4.11

I have a 89 GT and this is whats done so far( Comp Cams XE282HR:282-290 duration, 1.7 roller rockers, stock heads for now, under drive pulleys, bbk cold air,73mm mass air meter,70mm throttle body, trick flow street heat intake, flow masters) runs real good but not sure what gears I should run. Any ideas would be helpful thanks.

U will get tons of replys on this, a lot depends on the majority of driving u plan on doing (highway vs street).

For an auto, I say 4.10's...as I have them in mine and love them.

What do you have now?
3.73's are good all around, 4.10's can really put on a show with slicks and aggressive driving on a track, I chose to have something in between, 3.90's, yes they do make them for the 8.8, i found that they are rare in 8.8's though
I heard too many stories about hitting the rev limiter in 4th gr with 4.10's on the strip, i can see how, cuz my car is about 5800-6k at the topend.

It has stock gears that I think are 3.08s, when I looked up the code, and I forgot to mention it has a t-5

One of my favorite quotes!

"Don't fear the gear!"

If you have a T5, throw 4.30's in it and don't look back.

Tire size comes into play a bit, but unless you're running something that has a 26 or smaller diameter, go with the 4.10

Absolutely no way I would even consider 3.73's with a stick car. 4.10's or better. The "ass dyno" will thank you!

That's a bit small on the rear diameter, go with the 4.10's

If you think there's room for more later (you prolly will) you can always jump up to 4.30's.

I have 3.73's and love them. If you go with 4.10's you might not like long trips. But like Jester says, "don't fear the gear"

These will be the facts you need for your ratio's and rear tyre 245/50/15 with a standard T5

The columns arn't in alignment when I cut and pasted so you may have to re-align them.. columns are: gear 1~5/ box ratio 1~5 / RPM 1000~7000

T5 WITH 3.73
Gear Ratio 1000 2000 3000 4000 5000 5500 5800 6000 6500 7000
1 3.35 9 19 28 38 47 52 55 57 61 66
2 1.99 16 32 48 64 79 87 92 95 103 111
3 1.33 24 48 71 95 119 131 138 143 155 166
4 1 32 63 95 127 158 174 183 190 206 221
5 0.68 47 93 140 186 233 256 270 279 302 326
Revs at 60 km/h in fourth 1897 Revs at 110 km/h in top 2364

T5 WITH 4.11
Gear Ratio 1000 2000 3000 4000 5000 5500 5800 6000 6500 7000
1 3.35 9 17 26 34 43 47 50 51 56 60
2 1.99 14 29 43 58 72 79 84 87 94 101
3 1.33 22 43 65 86 108 119 125 130 140 151
4 1 29 57 86 115 144 158 167 172 187 201
5 0.68 42 84 127 169 211 232 245 253 274 296
Revs at 60 km/h in fourth 2090 Revs at 110 km/h in top 2605

The math is now done for you... just make your selection
I have 3.73 ratio with 275/60/15 and is good for street use and abuse!
