The MSD 6AL as a adjustable "soft-touch" rev-limter that drops spark instead of fuel.

I prefer the 6AL to the 6A. It's only I a little bit more.

The only hard part about hooking up the MSD is find a place to mount it.

sedanman 03-17-2004 11:37 PM

They sell a direct plug in for mustangs so you don't have to splice at all and its well worth the like $10.

whitepony 03-18-2004 05:39 PM

but what i just hook it up and mount it and thast it no fine tunning anything or adjusting the msd box or anything like that

The harness just makes more of mess in my opinion. Im done with MSD boxes, just switched over to Mallory.

Ouch, I am the other way. Mallory is junk in my opinion. I had one go bad in nothing flat. My freind bought the new "bad *** one" and it was bad out of the box, ordered another one from summit and sent the first one back and the second was a POS too, sent it back and went with MSD. I have just saw/heard of way to many problems with mallory. Good luck with it.

My digital 6 would bang the limiter no matter where i set it at.

1st day at track yesterday....worked flawless. Fresh box went 10.7's@125

whitepony 03-22-2004 07:20 PM

this may be a stupid question but what does the rev limiter do in the msd box? oh and will this box work with a t-5 should have asked that from the start
thanks

Yeah it will have no problems with the T5 or a auto if you ever switch.

The rev limiter is a feature that cuts the spark to cylinders in a alternate pattern (to prevent gas building up in the chamber it basicly fires the odds then the evens) by doing this it stops the motor from reving. So if you set it at 5,000 rpms you can floor it in neutral and it will rev to 5,000 then stop. This prevents damage to your motor if you miss a gear or something. It becomes really important as the power levels go up.

68Falcon 03-22-2004 08:09 PM

What the rev limiter does is stop you from over revving your motor. When you buy the MSD 6AL it come with chips with RPM on them like 3000 6500 7000. what ever chip you put in. it will not rev pass that RPM. you could put a 3000 chip in it to test it. Stand on it and it will hit the rev limiter at 3000. MSD 6AL has nothing to do with your trans.

blue oval 50h 03-22-2004 11:19 PM

Yes, and dont sit at the line on the limiter for 20 seconds either. Its not the best thing for your motor.
