347 Pistons
Ok, does anyone have a good source for Pistons other than Jegs and Summit? What Kb model does Ford Motorsports use anyone know?
Building motor with son, his First my millionth, ok 100th then seems like its been a million.. Mac;) |
Hey man I bought my Srp's for my 331 through Excessive Motorsports but after purchasing them I heard about all kinds of problems the guys on this site have had with them. Mine arrived ok, but maybe I just got lucky. What kind of pistons were you gonna use? I think it is chp that has pistons for a 349 where the oil ring is not affected by the wrist pin, you might want to look into those. John

I am running SRP's that I bought from a speed shop in Indy named Automotion. They were $500 for the set(forged).

coast high stoker kits use nonintersecting oil rings and wrist pins..i wanna say that dss does this also..dont get pulled into people saying tha thier kits have "special oil rings" or have "spcial extra oil defcter that goes in with wrist pin"...forget about it..you buy a chaper kit and you will get these promblems cuz of just the oil control
*loss of oil *detenation *fouled plugs sounds like fun right...btw when doing a 347 you wil need to notch the lower part of the clyender walls to accept the extra rod angle created.. |
I have the probe pistions in mine from coast high.

From the ads I have seen it appears the oil ring location on the probe pistons appears above the wrist pin. It doesn't intersec like some of the others, I certainly don't want any high oil consumption problems especially not on a new motor for the sons first hp ride. I'm getting kind of excited to get under way, with a new crank and H beams and bearings already in hand, I getting ready for pistons, then off to the machine shop, for boring with torque plates and then back to the shop for a mock-up and test fitting, and measurement for the dech height and then out for balancing.
I haven't decided on heads probably a good set of Gt-40 heads with some porting at Mike Chandlers in utha maybe.. Oh man I better settle down.....:D |
Try Hawaii Racing (in Calif.). (805) 583-8880. Ask for Jim Baker.
Take care, -Chris |
GT-40 on a 347??? YUK!!!!!!!!!!! Go TFS or AFR!
|
Keep in mind this for my son, not me I have afr 185cc and love them, great street head even a good track head. I don't think my son needs a 12. sec car on his first try.. I'm building something reasonable, 275-325 horsepower.
he would really like to grab a hold of the ole man's car, but guess what daddy says not yet son, to much power and not enough drive time..:D |
