347 stroker times/ combo's

Im new to the board and i want to know who has 347 stroker and what kind of times are you getting out of your's.
I ran my car when it had Trickflow heads and trickflow stage 2 cam
with no tuning in 100 degree weather and it ran 11.9@115. Is that good or bad. Everyone with strokers post times and combo's so can get an idea of what my car should be running.

stout combo

NOS,
that is a stout combo you have there especially with those AFR205 heads,11.9 is good with a daily driver,I am building something similiar to that except less cubes I am building a 331 stroker with High Ports, and a TFS R intake I am hoping for low 12's to high 11's after getting it dialed in.

ultraflo 08-14-2002 01:29 AM

Not a 347... but my best time on the motor/NA is 11.64@116... w/a 200 shot 10.32@131... hyd roller cam, stock block 306... rest of my specs are in the " - 93LX - " link in sig...

What was your 60ft. time on the 11.9 pass? Your MPH indicates you should be a little quicker... maybe 11.60-11.70...

How much spray you plan on adding to the equation? :D

Well My car has no suspension work so my 60 ft's are not good.
11.9 w/ 1.78 60ft.

347

Good times, makes me laugh and cry at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!
my 347 ran 12.225. but a 2.3 60 ft times and at 117(almost 118 mph) ripping out my hair trying to tune the suspension. I dumped the ssm uppers for adjustables. replace bushing with hemisphericals and tossed those crap eidbach launch springs and got a set of junk yard gt rears and 4cyl fronts.

Sorry to jump in on your post NOS.
I'm not a stroker yet, but I've been having a great debate with myself--306,331 or 347?? I'm thinking about sending my windsor jr's off to FoxLake for some flow work. How much motor can I push with these heads?? Once I get the motor done and tuned to a respectable level, I plan on supercharging it, which brings us to the other debate I'm having with myself--Kenne Bell or intercooled Procharger?? Any input from the stroker club would be great. I also plan on staying on street tires until it's tuned to the max. Once I can't go any faster, then I'll think about a set of drag radials or DOT slicks of some kind-or maybe even full slicks. I know the tires are killing my times, but I'm kind of partial to going fast without 'racing' tires. Thanks all.

Slow - upgrading to a stroker (331 or 347) will vastly increase your power output and therefore, your street tires aren't going to be able to handle it. My new 331 and BFG drag radials are ok for the street, but that's about it. I can easily spin the DRs without a problem. I can't imagine putting my BFG Comp TA ZRs back on - it would be a joke. :D Keep in mind, my 331 is no 11:1 motor either, rather its 9.2:1 (future D-1SC ProCharger).

NOS - I would say with your mph, your making some great power numbers. Some tuning, better weather, and some suspension tweaking and you've got a real screamer on you hands.

heads

Slow, the dart Jr's are a great head, but for my 347 I believe that they,re restrictive. If your going to a supercharger, they,ll be a definate bottleneck. I'll be upgrading to the AFR 205's with the nos port job fram afr. If the 205's seem to costly, Id consider the new roush 200's. The dart's are a great head, but I think a 347 would benefit from a larger head. my 2 cents:D

Your car has good MPH. When you get the 60's down there will be some good 11's.
Did you have your car tuned on the dyno. I haven't had time to get my tuned and i want to know what kind of hp do you get out of tunning.

Oldschoolpony 08-15-2002 01:50 PM

yes, it was dyno tunned. did 430.8 hp with a t-5 and 411's. now im going into a C-4 (PA) a 5k stall and 390 gears, adding 175 hp nos , afr 205's and manual steering and electric eater pump, might be dynoed again in fall.

How much wrhp did you pick up from getting it tuned.

ultraflo 08-15-2002 04:54 PM

...I picked up 20rwhp over baseline for a grand total of 340 with a setup not too far off from what I run now... Naturally aspirated, of course, then factor in the 200 shot and changes made after the dyno pull (and the times I run...) which puts me somewhere in the neighborhood of 550+ @ 3100lbs. w/ driver.

Sorry for butting in on the conversation, but I'm subscribed to the thread and have been reading along... thought you might wanna know anyhow. :)

Good Luck with your combo's guys... I wanted to build a 331 this winter. All I have at the moment is an R block... so I'm prolly gonna transplant the 306 rotating assem from the stock block over to the R block and add some more spray, shoot for some 10.0's or 9.90's next spring.

Take care

Your not butting in. Is 20 wrhp normal or is that high for dyno tunning. I can wait to get it tuned then throw the 200 shot on it.

Oldschoolpony 08-15-2002 10:55 PM

hp

I never ran it before, it was a new motor. Built and tunned by Lugos Racing

ultraflo 08-18-2002 12:30 PM

If I can recall what the dyno operator told me before the pulls were made.... he said something to the effect of "it's normal to see around a 10-20hp gain on a NA combo, and up to a 50hp gain on a supercharged combo (which is what they specialize in)... the gains are made through tuning the timing/fuel delivery of course.

I wouldn't recommend just throwing a 200 shot on it either... I worked up from a 100 shot on the new combo to play safe :)

Did they do a run to get a baseline and tune from there or did they only make one pull to get your hp figures?

Oldschoolpony 08-18-2002 02:31 PM

baseline

OH ok, DUH..... baseline was 345 rwhp. The old 347 running on 7 cyl. and over 19 to 1 fuel ratio(smoked out the whole shop) before rebuild was at 289 rwhp.:D

ultraflo 08-18-2002 05:42 PM

Wouldn't a 19:1 A/F ratio be mean-n-lean? 19-air/1-fuel??

I think my A/F ratio was like 13.xx:1 when I dynoed... not sure.

Your mentioning the smoking out the dyno makes me think of the blunder I ran into... I had some 28x12.5" ET Streets on 8" rims and they grew so much while strapped down on the rollers that they started rubbing the rear-lower corners of the fenders and smoked the dyno room out pretty bad... they weren't exactly happy about it. I had to remove the tires and use a BFH to massage the corners, while being charged for dyno time

Overall I'd have to say it was a sh!tty day... 340rwhp/316rwtq hoping for 400hp/350tq and had to rationalize "at least I got 400fwhp." Nothing a shot of nitrous can't take care of, eh? :)

Oldschoolpony 08-19-2002 10:32 AM

Not sure about the fuel. But it stank like heck..... I guess have 1 dead cyl. didnt help either. Going with my new combo. Hope to see some more dyno time when im done adding the nos too, hopefull should be in the 600 hp range( with power adder ) but thats not until I get the AFR 205's. I dont think stage 10 ( joke ) dart Jr's would work effeciently on this combo.:p

Ill probably be to old to drive by the time im finished. Still need, the afr 205's, k member, race seats, 5k stall, 390 gears,( rear is done, but it has 456's for the old t-5). March 30065 pully kit. CSI water pump(electric) Aluminum steering shaft. Switch from a HR292 comp cam to the xr or bigger. 7/16 stud rocker arms.(have 3/8 cranes now) heck, the list goes on and on.........
