351w vs 302 how much power can they hold

Ok I am having some problems deciding what motor to build. This is going to be a serious strip motor. I already have edelbrock victor jr heads, powerglide tranny and ford 9 in rear. My first thoughts were to just use a 302 and stroke it to 347 because its going in a ranger and that would be a pretty easy fit. But after hearing how weak a 302 block can be I thought I might need to reconsider. I am wanting over 500 hp on motor and would like the ability to spray if the block would hold it. Thats what im currious about what will a 351w block take. Im sure a 302 block will not stand for that. I will be using all fordged internals such as eagle h beams and crank with JE pistons so internals are not an issue. I also thought about buying the new. Dart Iron Eagle block but at over 2000 its a little pricy. just currious what you all thought

go 351 you can always stroke it .

put a girdle on it and it will hold 500

351

an old Ford Engine builder told me the 351 blocks of the earlier days were built incredibly strong.....but the newer 351 blocks were lightened up a little bit. no more, definately the 351w.
