4:10's ??

I was talking to a performance shop last week about rebuilding my rear end with 4:10's..

the owner more or less told me he would'nt put 4:10's im my car unless I was going to use it solely for racing, he was very opinionated about 3:73's as the highest he would go on a street car....

you guys or gals running 4:10's on the street, how are they?? what rpm's at 70mph?

I have a t-5 in the car...

thx....

4:10's on their way!!!!

if you find your gear ratios, and wheel circumference, you can figure out how many revs you'd have @70. your top speed would be lowered, your revs would almost always be higher, your gas mileage probably wouldn't be as good, but you would accelerate faster.

This site has a horsepower calculator and a top speed calculator. You punch in your gear and rear tire size and it will give you your mph for every gear in 100 rpm increments.

It's pretty cool.

I agree with your performance shop, I think 3.73's are a better choice for a street car with a T-5, 3.55's are a good choice also.

I wouldn't recommend you go any higher than the 3.73's. The guy at the shop was right.

Listen to someone that has 4.10's. I have them and love them! I have NEVER heard anyone that got them regret it, just people that got 3.73's regret that they didn't get 4.10's.

I completely agree with 93cobrar, my friend just trashed his 373's for 410's and he loves them, and so do i, im getting some for sure, the 373's barely felt much different from 355's, dude i know guys running 4.30's on the street, but that may be a bit steep, but 410's are no problem.

consider how much you will drive(daily to and from work?) your car. you can get through third gear just going through some big intersections, thats pretty busy rowing that stick, unless you dont mind reving the piss out of it all of the time.you could start in second though.my choice for a street stick car is 3.55. just another opinion.

I was running 3.50 in my 9" and had to go back to stock 2.75 because the moron that I bought the chunk from didn't torque all of the bolts. It is a huge difference right there and I'm changing the 3.50 for 4.11. My engine doesn't like low rpms and the higher gear keeps it up there in the curve.

If you drive more than 250 miles a week or do much driving on freeways/highways, you will likely regret 4.10's, and should go with 3.73's. If this is only a weekend cruiser, you will love the 4.10's. 20 years ago I had a 69 SS 396 w/ 3.08's, and put in a set of 4.11's. I will never forget what a neck-bending rush they were!! I will also never forget having rice burners blow by me on the freeway because I couldn't sustain speeds that high for that long. It all depends on how, where and how often you drive it.

Take care

I have 4.10's but i also have an aod and i love them the only thing that you might have to adjust to is launching on street tires you will have to gradually put the gas to the floor instead of all at once so you dont spin to your tires to redline.
Oh yeah when i am on the highway i go 70 at about 2500rpm's.

stng87 06-28-2001 01:33 AM

I had 410s with the aod then switched to the t-5z tremec and I love the 410s still. Only bad think is that theres not much need for 1st gear in a normal t5 with the 3.35 first gear. Its a daily driver also. I drove from ohio to western Neb loaded down with weight and filled up 4 times=80 dollars. My vote goes to the 4.10's. I used to have 373s, 410s just plain more fun.

*** AOD's. IT'S MANUAL! Now for the T-5z!
