Post 4.30 gears with T-5

I installed 4.30 gears yesterday in an attempt to lower my 60ft times. I think it had a reverse affect. I have to shift it so fast in first gear theres no way I'll make it to the 60' mark before I have to shift to 2nd. As soon as I let out the clutch at WOT I'm shifting again. My question is are these gears to low for a T-5. I plan on going with a C4 later on down the road as money permits.

Yeah, I'd say 4.30s are probably too low for your mods. If you didn't have as much power as you do, then they might be all right.

With a C4 you would probably be ok. The only thing you'd have to worry about is taching out before the finish line. Remember C4s don't have an OD like AODs do. Just 3 drive gears.

I do think that 4.30s are too steep for your set up right now. And someone else will have to tell you what to do about the C4.

I agree completely. It's been my experience that 3.73's are about as low as I'd want to go with a T5, and 4.10's with a C4. There are variables, but the bottom line is 4.30's are going to be way more work than they're worth with a T5.

Take care

I ran 4.30's last season in my Trophy Stock car with a T5. For that class, it seems to be the right gear. You're right though, you're probably grabbing second before you even reach the christmas tree! I've still got the 4.30's in there now with my Lentech AOD and its a pretty decent combination. I'm taching out at about 6400 at the stripe with the 26x8.5 slick. You need to consider the speed & rpm where you want to cross the line as well as the weight & tranny combination...plus a whole lot more.

BTW: The C4 and AOD would finish the same since you shouldn't be using the O/D while racing anyways. Even in a Lentech, the O/D is really HP limited. With either, gear the car so that drive (1.00:1) gets you to the stripe at the right rpm.

Are you interested in getting rid of the 4:30's? Drop me a e-mail with a price and the any other info rhawver@strouse.com. I was getting ready to order a set but if you have them for a good deal..

Did you pick up anything by doing the swap? That GT-40 intake will limit you on the top end, the heads will flow great numbers but the GT-40 will fall off above 5800 same with the B cam.

I need to go to the 4:30's due to my cam profile (needs 4:30-4:56 gear) and wanted rpm range at the traps. I am only going through at 5200rpm with the 3:73's, the 4:30's should put me through around 6300-6400 which is where I am currently making peak power. Jeff has a lot of good points, it really depends on your combo a lot. I can't wait to get the 4:30's in and grab some mid 11's. I would think the 4:30's are too low for use with N20 anyway.

Rick 91GT Yeah I picked up a little. It definitly feels like it pulls harder. I just don't think it will make it down the track before I hit the rev limiter. Im hitting the traps at 5900rpms, with 4.10s. As for my intake and cam I know they need to be upgraded but as you know that takes money. My wife still thinks I only have exhaust on the car. She would shoot me if she found out how much money I've dumped into it.I have to sneak a little here and there.

I have no problem selling you the gears Rick 91GT. Let me get my hands on some 373s first.
