![]() Ive had a problem going through starters for different reasons but i was told the 4.6 starter is really small and powerful and could be used on my c-4 behind the 5.0. Has anyone done this? I have been using a gear reduction starter off a 94 f150 5.0 which is alot smaller than the stocker starter and allows for more header clearance and is much easier to put in and take out. The 4.6 starter is supposed to be even smaller and more powerful. Any info would be appreciated because my starter just went again and i need to put a new one on tomorrow and was thinking of trying this.
thanks for the help

![]() As far as i know there is no way to get a 4.6L starter on a 5.0L because they have completely different mounting patterns. The late model permanent magnet starters are more powerful and lighter. They were installed on '92-'95 5.0L mustangs and also draw less amperage than the previous field coil starters.
A truck starter may not fit on your vehicle because some have longer throw pinion gears and solenoid, as well as engage only with 143 or 164 tooth flywheels as opposed to the mustang's 157 tooth flywheel/flexplate. You have to do some slight rewiring to install the smaller starter, but i believe if you get the Ford Racing starter kit, it comes with instructions. The part # is M-11000-A50. This is from an old catalog, but the number should be the same so check it out. You can go to www.summitracing.com and type in manufacturer part #, enter this number and see what the cost is and description. Good luck,
