Default 4 cylinder 5 speed work on 5.0?

i have a problem with blowing up my 5 speeds. i have heard that with a little machining you can make a 4 banger tranny work on the 50. they say it is stonger than the v8 tranny. has any heard of this and does it work? please let me know. thanks.

It is NOT stronger or have a higher torque rating from what I've heard.

theres no machine work needed to install the 4cly tranny...there not stronger there geared differently....if u have that much power where u keep blowing up the stock t5 then get a tremic

All you need to do is put the V8 bell housing on the 4 cylinder tranny.

They are weaker though for sure.

"they say" Who is they?

Input shaft is longer and narrower than the V8's. You can buy a bushing to take up the diff in diameter. The lenght is the problem. If it bottoms out into the back of the crank you can damage the rear main bearing. It has to be milled back some.

Don't waste your time.

Looking around on the net I've "heard" that all you need is a different pilot bearing: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...E00%7C%7E14672
This is what I'll be doing when I put my 4cyl t5 in my mustang. Best of luck.

All 2.3 T-5's have a torque rating of 240 ft.lbs. They have a longer input shaft (7.41 vs. 7.18), a smaller diameter pilot (.59 vs. .668), and they will have a first gear ratio of either 3.97 or 4.03, depending on the year.

Not hardly ideal for a V-8 swap.
