4 lug rear end
I am learning a lot fast since purchasing a 1986 GT with 5 speed. Why do some of these cars have 4 lug, and some have 5 lug. I thought 4 lug was only with 4 cylinder cars, but obviously not! What is the difference between the 5.0 LX and 5.0 GT? I guess this is where the differences really come in. Thanks for all input. Steve

Re: 4 lug rear end
They started the 5lug trend in 94. The difference in the LX and GT is mainly the ground effects, same motor, transmission, and drivetrain for that matter. The tailpipes are different because of the rear bumper as well. The GT's out weigh the LX's by an avg of 300-400lbs, and have fog lights. That's all I can really think of at the moment.

Re: 4 lug rear end
yeah, they didn't start the 5 lug until 94 models with disc brakes. up to 86 they had the 7.5 rearend, 87+ was the 8.8 that you want due to durability. there are many diff options on converting your car to 5 lug also. good luck
