Default 4cyl. to a 5.0 swap

I am fixin to do this swap in my brother's 89lx. I have the 89 A9L computer. And the harness. If anyone here has done this swap please post what your experience was. Good or bad. One question I do have is, will Lincoln town car fuel rails work on a mustang? I don't see why they won't. Another question is, what part of the harness do I have to change? Should just be the underhood part right? Your replies are greatly appreciated.

I am about to do a 3.8-5.8. Not the 4 to 8. I have a million in one articles about the 4 to 8 swap. Most say it is a great swap. Not sure about the rails.

Need to swap the the main harness, fuel injector harness and add the on for the o2's. You have an option on the harness that the alt wires are in, you can swap the whole thing or just lengthen the wires running to the alt. And you will need to change the gauge cluster for a V8 one. Not sure if the Lincoln fuel rails will work they might not be the right length. 87-88 V8 T-birds might be a better choice....Or you could cut the 4cyl line where they turn and add some High pressure fuel line to the front. I recommend finding a set from a V8 stang.... You can leave the 4cyl brake system if you run turn downs. Also you can use the 4cyl rear brake line on an 8.8 when you put one in. The 4cyl and v8 brake lines mount differently in the rear and that is the reason you can't run tail pipes with the 4cyl set up....

What are you referring to as the main harness? The engine part I would assume. I shouldn't have to mess with any of that stuff under the dash right?

Thanks

I would also suggest you get an 8.8 rear end, I hear the 7.5 rear from a 4 cyl car wont last long with a 5.0 spinning it I just helped one of my buddies do the swap so I can helpyou with some things. As far as the fuel rails go, I have no idea. My friend got a complete motor/tranny out of a junkyard car. Good luck - John

Yea, I call it the main harness; the one from the EEC to the engine compartment. You won't have to mess with any of the dash stuff unless you try using different years harnesses. I.E.. an 87-89 will need an 87-89 v8 harness and the 90 harness looks like the 89 but won't work without some re-wiring and the 91+ are different. The 91+ only have one plug(redish brown) compared to the 2(black & grey) the 87-90's over where they plug into the dash harness behind the driver side stut tower.

But you should be OK using the 89 harness in the 89 car...We used an 89 harness in an 87LX when we did my buddies car. We tried a 90 and the fuel pump wouldn't come on. They say it can be made to work but no one has said how to re-wire it to make it work.
